The good thing with federated servers is that each admin can chose and their users can decide if it's good or not for them...
But I agree that blocking threads because you don't like meta is like blocking Gmail because you don't like Google.
On the other hand, I wonder how modération of a billion more users will work...
Might be great. Might be a disaster. Might be something in between that will trigger new technology advances...

    Two important Threads updates 🔔🔔

First, Threads is expanding to more countries across Europe, so people there can follow and join the conversations they care about. We’re starting to roll out in more countries now on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store; www.threads.net is live everywhere now.

I was wondering why I couldn't follow some of the accounts I do on Threads, this explains that :)
Do you have a list of accounts that are on Fedi?

Dropbox has started to give your files to OpenAI.

They claim it's only if you use their AI tools, and they claim OpenAI will use your data for only 30 days and then delete it. I think that's a terrible abuse of user rights and a security disaster waiting to happen.

Confusingly, they've rolled-out this malfeature to some users but not all (yet). My partner & me compared the "Settings" page on our Dropbox accounts — the "Third-Party AI" tab is there for one of us but not the other.

The setting is switched on by default. This is a "dark pattern" (also known as a "deceptive design pattern") that ignores user consent. If you don't know about it, you can't opt-out. Worryingly, if you're slow to opt-out then there's a chance they've scraped you data already. It's a harsh reminder of the saying "If you're not paying for the product, you are the product".

sex in Norway: female influencers are telling girls to go all natural for contraception. meanwhile, polyamory is increasingly popular among young people, abortion rates are skyrocketing and birth rates are plummeting.

sexual liberation? sure, but the numbers aren't adding up.

Oh yeah, I understand that was fairly popular in the 60-70 in the rest of Europe, and it did lead to a lot of unwanted pregnancies...

I think the biggest difference is that spaceships in movies (like Star Trek) are built in a space dock, rather than on earth. (Although the last movies show the ship being made on earth)

Having the parts beamed to a space dock (or through an orbital lift) could allow for larger, more spacious and comfortable ships...
