In another chapter of “what crazy things has AI done this week,” the Catholic advocacy group Catholic Answers has had to swiftly defrock the AI priest it unveiled just a few days ago, after some strange conversations were shared online.

In a particularly awkward exchange with @futurism regarding the legitimacy of his identity, the chatbot claimed to be a real member of the clergy, who lived in Assisi. “Yes, my friend,” Father Justin is reported to have said, “I am as real as the faith we share.”

The Federal Trade Commission has voted 3-2 along party lines to ban new noncompete agreements and make most existing agreements non-enforceable for everyone other than senior executives. FTC Chair Lina Khan says lifting the ban will allow workers the “freedom to change jobs,” which “is core to economic liberty.” The decision is expected to be challenged by the Chamber of Commerce, which argues noncompete agreements protect trade secrets. Read more from CBS News about the decision.

Elon Musk has been labelled an “arrogant billionaire” by the Australian prime minister, over X’s reluctance to follow a court order and remove footage of the Sydney church stabbing globally.

While Musk has taken this as another questionable opportunity to shout about free speech and censorship, @TheConversationUS also considers the complexities that global take-down orders present, and the how they could harm the internet if adopted widely.

North Korea has celebrated Earth Day by not turning any lights on for the 26,280th day in a row.

Supreme Leader Kim Jung-un praised the courage and indefatigability of himself in ensuring the North Korean people don’t engage with capitalist, western ideas like light bulbs and cooked meals.

He also confirmed he had further reduced North Korean carbon emissions by having underlings carry him to breakfast this morning rather than being driven there as usual.

From vinyl records to film cameras, analogue technology is having its moment once more — but what is making consumers choose these more “difficult technologies” when simpler and more convenient methods exist?

Whether we are seeking a slower pace, finding comfort in the process or are looking for inspiration in the “happy accidents” that restrictive analogue technology presents, the analogue revival is driven by people who know that the path to great art is rarely ever convenient — and that’s part of its beauty.
