Hmm is this an ND thing?

Ever since I can remember, I have strongly disliked pranks and have been against humor at the expense of someone else (making fun of them).

I know nice NT people also feel this way but I've felt this strongly since a very young age. Anyone else?

@dyani @actuallyautistic the problem with this is that these jokes get directed at the person in the room that one feels safe to make jokes at. Thats usually the odd, the outsider, the one that causes them to feel in uncanny valley. Usually the autist.

    @schizanon out of experience: keep a firewall separate from everything else: fast boots, smpler config, clear perimeter. Also dmz your public services.

    @schizanon well, then you need additional hardware to run your firewall on. :)

    Circular dependencies such as dhcp and dns can quickly happen.

    Why do I have to keep running to fix the bit map? , 1T HD. Would or Btrf preclude this problem? Most annoying!

    A very fast scoll of a Debian Linux computer running fsck because of bit rot or whatever, a seemingly endless series of seven-digit decimal numbers which the camera zooms into. Three black tektites and a fingernail clipper are on the black computer stand. A black d12 and a purple magnetic dodecahedron are on the desk also. There is a Swedish comb.

    The bigger question is why your FS is unclean. Do you have a bad drive? Are not shutting down properly? Something writing directly to your disk?

    I haven't had filesystem corruption on ext4 in a decade. (on 1000s of hosts)

    and handle corruption in more advanced ways. But hardware or config problems will also lead to failure there.

    We need to have a talk, and I’m having a really hard time having it with my awesome hacker friends, because everyone is super duper emotionally invested and is deeply hurt by it.

    I hope you all aren’t - because it involves all of us and it’s important. It’s not about any of y’all individually or your hard community work.

    The talk is about how to make all of our cybersecurity conferences and events and meetups more accessible and conformable for young hackers because I’mreallysosorry, we’ve somehow become Old, and the stuff that we are ingrained with as “hacker culture” like movies, music, and memes all were created before they were born - and they may or may not have any emotional attachment or enjoyment of them at all.

    That’s the conversation we need to have and that we are all responsible for and I swear it’s not aimed at any conference or person because we are all in this filter bubble of watching the Matrix and listening to Prodigy and remembering the hamster dance and all of that stuff while awesome was like a quarter century ago.

    Part of building a community is thinking about including everyone and their culture under a mantle of good ethics and goals. So we really, really need to start having a chat about when we lean on the 90s hacker aesthetic and memories to the exclusion of people under 30. I had a wake up call hearing some students complaining about it.

    We saw how it was before. We where the outkasts embracing the new. It was ours, hence we made it our essence.

    They have been born in the sea of information. For them its their only existence and its not new.

    But the fascination is there. They are not OK with the status quo. Make it about the capitalist system. Make it about , and the .

    Because they aim for a better world, just as we did!

    @HelenLawson2007 @bojacobs @sts geothermal is much too small.Currently around 18GW total. Nuclear is around 500GW. Geothermal is highly location dependent (other than heatpumps)
