This is what ChatGPT actually is. It was trained on all books ever written by an infinite army of monkeys, and you have to find the one you want by asking it questions.
Bad idea: you know how sometimes people have a "me but a bot" account? Where they've trained a gpt3 bot on their original posts, and have it regularly generate a fake post by them?
Why stop there? Train another bot on the first bot account's output. And another.
See how many bot accounts it takes until foonebot7 is just posting "floppy floppy floppy floppy floppy floppy" 24/7
It's kinda depressing how tumblr is imploding now and I'm seeing half my follow list go "man, after seeing both twitter and tumblr do this, it's really showing how it's a bad idea for a social media network to be run by a company who can make arbitrary changes without user consent.
it's weird because it's not like bsky is any more tumblr-like than mastodon. and there are activitypub-based socials designed to work more like tumblr... but nope, mastodon is scary, so when tumblr dies, we'll go to bsky. what'll happen on bsky in a year or do? don't worry about it!
@foone fucking yes. I've been lobbying for the fediverse on Twitter for two years now, offering help and tech support and explanations to anyone wanting to migrate, I've been emphasiszing that there are software (softwares?) other than Mastodon and pointing out GoToSocial, PeerTube, Pixelfed, etc.; I've been pointing out that Bluesky originated as a Dorsey-led Twitter spin-off, I've been highlighting Bluesky's tech and moderation failures, etc. etc.
...and I've gotten zero. Nothing. People either bring up superficial discourses like "but the admins read your DMs!", follow influencers who came to "Mastodon" and ragequit when their attempts to impose their Twitter habits on the network didn't work, or at best people signed up to mastodon.social, had bad experiences because it's mastodon.social, and quit.
But people hand out Bluesky invites left and right. Even people I know are on the fediverse and enjoy it here.
If a corporate platform restricts who can join, it's "exclusive", when they impose bad rules, it's "growing pains", when they have technical failures, it's "innovative".
When we do it, it's "elitist", "censorship", and "only for nerds".

I'm also on a Mastodon server, safe to assume I don't know anything about computers, despite the domain name.
I was copying a Totally Legal Game Backup onto my roommate's switch and it confused Windows so much that it told me I had the wrong floppy diskette in the drive.
gah. I'm having continual trouble with a modded switch, because you need a microSD card which you copy files onto and they keep getting corrupted.
I corrupted my first SD card by trying to copy a game that was too big and the fat filesystem filling with lost sectors, so I wiped it and started setting it up again. My idea was that I'd set it up and then image the whole SD card!
I wonder if you could clone a FlashPath floppy disk emulator but as a PCB.
Youd need a hole in the middle for the spindle, but if you could keep the height down and do some magnetic coils at the right place, it could work?
With all the different microcontroller platforms out there, it's sometimes annoying because there's a solution that does exactly what you want but it's targeting some weird architecture that isn't what you use, or has suddenly become hard to find.
I think it's about time we organize all our open source microcontroller-based firmware around a simple, widely available, and powerful architecture, for consistency and interoperability.

I'm disappointed in how hacking works in real life. I'd played enough video games to have an idea how it would go, but I've been hacking games and hardware for like a decade now and not even once have I had to solve a pipe maze puzzle
Gonna hook up a bot to my mastodon account that just periodically searches for people referring to me in the past tense or passing around obituaries.
It'll just reply "I'm not dead!" to those posts.
It won't get a lot of use now, but I predict it'll be pretty funny someday, in the (hopefully far) future
