this account is for more personal stuff, I use mastodon.social for more science stuff, but there is a lot of sloppy overlap.

@LexiGirl @GottaLaff I have an inlaw who likes Trump because they think he's pro-vet and "at least he's getting people who weren't political before to get out and vote."

The fact that Tim Scott is refusing to say he’d follow the law and not try to overthrow the results of a free and fair election should scare anyone listening. This is how democracies end.

👇🏼
WELKER: Will you commit to accepting the 2024 election results?

TIM SCOTT: At the end of the day, the 47th president will be Donald Trump

WELKER: Wait -- yes or no, will you accept the results?

TIM SCOTT: That is my statement

geographile,

@GottaLaff this sounds to me like he'd want to help with the coup if Donald loses a free and fair election.

So...same, this year.
"They aren’t necessarily voting for who they want, but against who they don’t want."
I like so much of what Biden has done, but he's also disappointed me hard. Finding the balance so that he is earning my vote is a challenge. This year, he'll just be more likely to beat Trump than available options. And being as California isn't a swing state, I'm not against a protest vote. (If you're in a swing state, please remember Trump Is Worse.)

Also? Articles like these (or maybe the polls?) don't mean much to me at this level of vagueness, without some reasons or context. The primary thing I'm getting is that rural folks aren't paying much attention to what's happening wrt DoT, and I hate to wonder, but is Pete the best messenger, or would they be as nasty about a straight person that isn't a Trump loyalist?

Around our raised vegetable beds, we have ~6" of dense decomposed granite on top of high-quality barrier cloth on top of barest of bare dirt. And still the oxalis (sour grass, Bermuda buttercup, pes-caprae, goat's foot, soursop) comes up. It's even in the planting beds 20" higher than the decomposed granite. And we only installed the beds and dirt a couple of months ago.

We're using herbicides only very sparingly and not on this, but I'm so tempted.

(About the sandals: It was a little chilly today, long sleeves but no jacket. I wear sandals as long as there's no danger of frostbite.)

I'm old enough to remember when, in 1999, landlines went down after the Loma prieta : but cell phones were new and there were still enough Towers per account or phone, that for a while they were the major the way people communicated, including @caltrans. Their service center over the Caldecott Tunnel was entirely cell driven, and there was a group of people trapped in a building in Oakland to called people on the east coast, Via cell, we're able to call Emergency Services on the west coast. Please excuse weird capitalization, speech to text is a thing of beauty.

This month I have a couple of appointments that are 45 minutes away by car or 2+ hours away (depending on time of day) by public , including a stretch that's not especially safe for me (in my wheelchair) and my kid, between transit station and destination.

We can't wait for the passengers. We need to build robust public transit first.
