”30% of young Americans think the army running the country is a good idea.”

Yet they somehow also think they’ll be free. 😨

Most of us bought into him cosplaying a sensitive nerd. I know I did, and then cheered for the team.

A refrshingly pragmatic conversation that does not just go around the issues.

Personally, I would remove ”like” button mechanics and follow counters from users under 16. And mandate strong age verification. By law.

Yeah, sorry, but parents just aren’t up to the task of changing how addictive software design and chilhood development interact!

Ok. Player of Games, Use Of Weapons and Excession are awesome too. But if any should be made into a screenplay now it would surely have to be Surface Detail

A stark reminder of what’s happening to #Ukraine: A ruthless empire trying to take back the world into the 1800’s, by any means necessary.

And if we let them, more #war will follow. And follow. And follow. Obeying the rules is not in their dictionary.

I nice reminder, that since late most papers in advanced AI have come from people working at: Mega large companies for profit.

Which raises an important question: How is profit and science supposed mix, if peer-review has been impossible due to witholding data?

If a paper can’t be verified, is it science? Science is, after all, an inter-subjective process.

So are these papers more truthfully just fancy forms of advertisements?

I think on a principal level referring to ’s ”smarts” as ”” is misleading. Not because it’s inherently wrong but because intelligence is such a loaded term.

I’ve found more productive terms to be:

  1. Describer
  2. Contextualizer
  3. Pattern generalizer
  4. Resynthesizer

It’s much better to say ”smart” than intelligent. Leads to less bad inferences when discussing with laypersons who aren’t philosophically priored to draw the fine line in the sand themselves

@thetechtutor How well did that go in Northern Ireland?

History seems to point to two answers:

In modern times terrorist organisations are almost never defeated by military actions, but by political solutions that offer the people a better alternative. The people know these are madmen, but the madman is the only one speaking for them so there’s no choice.

In old times brutal empires took hundreds of years to crush repeating rebellions and eradicated whole ethnic groups in the process.

In a groundbreaking study from 2017, Chatard et al found social comparison to be subliminal.

In the study women were shown images of thin women or heavy women at sub-conscious threshold viewing times of less than 20 milliseconds.

Even when they consciously didn’t register seeing them and weren’t able to make the comparison, the study found feeling good or bad about their bodies still consistently affected.

The important question is what the above means for of , especially young girls on :

It means we can’t educate ourselves away from this.

We can of course alleviate some of the problems that follow, and we should. Social media provides way too many supermodel-shapes to push those buttons teenagers still don’t know how to react to.

And it is important for educators also to try and not ”talk some sense into the kids”, but promote healthy reactions to the inevitable.

One thing stays constant over the ages: Rich people who think politics is bankrupt and they should run things instead.

The thing with politics is though, at it’s root the word means doing things (for the city) together. And the root of their frustration with politics and doing away with it is that they don’t want to do things together.
