@bart Greatly appreciated, but should you consider investing some of that for funding political campaigns to make the AI giants pay up for their training data?

Another alternative that might actually have better chance of success is developing protocols of strong human verification.

At least develop the platform in a way that requires strong proof of humanness to transact anything.

Humans have freedom of expression, bots don’t.

@jensorensen This is actually not surprising. Any action prompts a reaction. That's how human psychology and societies actually work!

That's why you need to be prepared for winning:

Instead of letting go and relaxing that things are finally the way you wanted them, you need to brace for the incoming hailstorm of arrows from those who only now realised they didn't want you to succeed.

gimulnautti, (edited )
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@JJ_Allen @jensorensen Very true.

Economic anxieties always serve to push a lot of those who would be tolerant otherwise to the hate camp, because the general higher ”threat level” presupposes the mind to interpret non-dangerous signals as potential threats, too.

Conservatism is rooted fundamentally in observing the world primarily through threats. The clinging to hierarchies & strength is the coping mechanism, not the root cause.

Trump is telling us exactly what he plans to do if he gets another term. He is framing his return to power as an authoritarian effort, and he is overtly using Nazi language and symbolism to drive home the point.

This wasn't a mistake. It isn't a joke. American freedom and democracy are on the line in 2024. The main headline in Trump's ad asks: "What's Next for America?" Trump's answer: authoritarianism and fascism.

The Telegraph headline on Palestinian refugees is in essence identical to how rightwing British tabloids wrote about Jewish refugees when Britain denied them safe refuge during the Holocaust.

These institutions are dedicated to White supremacy at all costs. They view us as disposable nonhumans.

Any PoC and/or Jew who thinks these people are on their side is wrong. They may temporarily pretend to not hate Jews or Ukrainians or whoever but that’s all it is: temporary.

gimulnautti,

@Npars01 @ayoub Weapons manufacturers at least. Testing new weapons systems on Palestinians has long been a source of Israeli wealth.

"Combat-proven weapons" are a major Israeli export.

Today, we have integrations as the primary export being researched in Gaza.

a “microcosm of what authoritarians do on a larger scale.”

“AFTER the Republican Chair and GOP members broke official House protocol to allow MTG’s horrific opening silo of rhetoric, they THEN made another change to dispense with the legislative process,” Ocasio-Cortez said on X (formerly Twitter). “THAT part is not getting enough attention.”

In a move she described as “highly unusual and still unclear to me how legitimate it was,” the GOP-led committee vacated both the typical amendment process and legislative debate that follows, moving directly to vote on their own text without allowing for amendments or objections to be heard.

“That’s why this stuff isn’t just all-sides chaos, or mere distraction, or a pox on everyone’s house,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “They WANT you to think this was some random devolution of conduct instead of a structured GOP outcome. We must understand who and what actions created the situation. It matters.”

Once again, the issue is portrayed as a bunch of extremists who took over Israel. This is not untrue, but it hides the fact that before these extremists were anywhere near power, Israel was already systematically dispossessing, colonizing, and brutalizing Palestinians.

Every Israeli I know hates Netanyahu, Israel's messianic far right, settlements, and settlers. And I mean HATES them.

But Israeli society is still overwhelmingly supportive of the war.

@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@MisuseCase @raph This is indeed very classic ultra-right behaviour, distrust of anyone and everyone but the leader.

As I argued in the blog post, it is the reward structure of the society that decides who become the elites of the next generation.

It looks to me that the reward for engaging in settlement expansion, arms development tested on palestinians, surveillance tech with the same guinea-pigs, became the dominant factor in deciding who "makes it” in society.

At the shop the other day, my daughter asked me: ”Why are women’s fragnances all about gentle lavender & soft peach, while men’s are about ultra max fresh?” and complained about the strenght.

I told her many men like to project power. The absolute kind that’s there whether you like it or not. I speculated the strenght of the smell could be similar to having loud car.

I also thought that many must find that attractive, since it continues to sell. Because I definitily wouldn’t lie to my kid.

Language is a product of billions of years of evolution, a tool to try and hopelesslt describe 1/100th of a lived experience.

Generative language is trying to make a convincing simulacrum of a lived experience.

Artificial general intelligence is something, but this most certainly isn’t it.

Human children learn in order to be able to communicate about a fundamentally internal experience presented to them by their brain & body.

Today, we are making machines learn language in order to present a convincing simulacrum of possessing ived experience.

Whatever artificial general intelligence is, i’m quite sure it is not the above.

But their drilling knowhow could be the dark horse in the race for decarbonisation.

The potential for advanced geothermal energy with supercritical water techniques hold the key for unlocking vast amounts of carbon-free energy that is as stable as fossil fuels.

We are sitting on a ball of hot magma heated by nuclear radiation and movement of the moon.

@tg9541 Maybe. But not paying attention to such things does tell of the psychology of people involved:

If we calculate the odds of nobody noticing this resemblance at SpaceX, I would say those simply have to be quite low.

Therefore, there’s a reasonably high probability that those who did see it were afraid to say it out loud, didn’t care, or were not motivated to do anything about it.

@tg9541 I have no quarrel with your views on the case.
