I'm going off the grid for a week. Please enjoy imagining me doing whatever you’d like to imagine I’m doing.

These dozen stories almost always work in commercial fiction, film & TV. Did I miss any?

  1. Rom-Com
  2. Road Trip
  3. Gotta Sing, Dance, Sport, etc.
  4. Rag-Tag Rebels (Scrappy Underdogs)
  5. Killing Nazis (Righteous Revenge)
  6. Rags to Riches

I ran out of post space; for six more, see

The last seedy dregs of Times Square, circa 1980.
If someone doesn't use 'Tango Palace' as the title of a hard-boiled novel, I'll have to.

I recommend the chilling but riveting story of Clarence Thomas in the Slow Burn podcast, available here or wherever fine podcasts are streamed.

If your initials are T.W., and you're into Art Nouveau graphics, today is your lucky day! I just stumbled across this monogram from "The Works of GJ Whyte-Melville", pub. 1898, via the British Library.

If anyone is interested in the history of independent theater in LA, this website is a brilliant archive of the Back Alley Theatre, a creative space that flourished from 1979-1989 in the San Fernando Valley, a region thought to be so culturally bereft, it was the butt of jokes. (Disclaimer: the theater was operated by my father and stepmother and I helped build sets.)

If you like bloody revenge, a laconic, indefatigable hero, and miraculous, mystical happenings in the mythical Old West, then I think you'll share my opinion; "The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu" by Tom Lin kicks ass. [CW: sex, violence, drug use, racists]
