Are there any servers that implement read receipts for direct messages, or is this something I'll have to do myself?

@macrumors 4K on 27" is basically useless for macOS though

@evan IMO any support helps. The more people on the fediverse, regardless of what exactly hosts their account, the better for the humanity as a whole.

Meta has started rolling out Threads, the Twitter competitor that was previously known under project names such as Barcelona and P92.

For now, it's only available in a few countries: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instagram.barcelona

Here are some pictures of what we can expect.

@kristian @socialmedianews is there an apk anywhere?

Whatever is going on right now in , I do note this: is now useless at tracking this. Junk accounts everywhere, no verified accounts, swarms of sketchy bluechecks.

The ONE thing that place was good at was breaking global news. But not now.

See everyone here tonight.

@tchambers in English maybe. In Russian there's so much I can hardly keep up

Rewrote the database connection management in . Used to be one connection per thread, now it's a global connection pool that grows and shrinks in response to load. What's more, it feels like pages load faster now! Didn't expect that.

@chrismessina if only it also worked with real browsers, not the browser-downloading utility =/

Trying to find the best tracking for usage after the API and Apollo app ruckus.

Seeing anecdotal signs of lots of new users, but trying to find a place that quantifies it on a daily updated basis:

Here is Federation-info:

https://the-federation.info/platform/73

I don't think is updated daily, but rather monthly for now.

Are there others sources for daily data over the last weeks?

@friend @tchambers

wow, the Russian translation on this thing is so phenomenally terrible. I found the Crowdin project (full of Google Translate'd strings) and am currently fixing it.

@grishka@mastodon.social avatar

@friend @tchambers

I'm done. Note to everyone: never, ever, under no circumstances, translate UI strings with machine translation into a language you don't know. It's helpful to no one. Better to have no translation than the abomination it was.

Permanence in social media is a bug not a feature.

This is why we added a expiration date to posts from nos.social.

grishka,
@grishka@mastodon.social avatar

@rabble I absolutely disagree. Permanence of electronic textual communication is a feature compared to IRL conversations. For the love of everything, please stop trying to emulate the unreliability of human memory on computers. This is helpful to no one.

update: collection sync, something no one has done before, again. Collections are fetched automatically on first follow, and there also are admin buttons to force fetch them at any time.

Yes, you can now see mutual friends for Mastodon users!
