Hmm, talked with a neighbor yesterday and she said one of her friends had a similar plumbing disaster, and is still out of the house 8 months later... plus her friend's husband died (she jokes, half kiddingly, from stress from the whole thing).

More suburban mysteries: folks who garden, but who throw away their compostable kitchen scraps and coffee grounds, and instead purchase industrial fertilizers. There's a very notable difference in soil quality if you make and use your own compost (high in organic matter) vs. soil that has been bombarded with industrial fertilizer (with no added organic matter).

@ai6yr thanks for the reminder — I just went out and put the sprinkler on it. I put on more scraps and chicken manure but haven’t gotten it to moist sponge state yet (needs to be moist so it get steaming hot).

Personal plumbing disaster (busted pipe on the second floor) blessings and lessons (so far, send tips):

  1. Blessing/lesson: the pipe broke in the second floor, but did NOT get all the computers below (amazingly). Except a couple of Toughbooks got wet, but they should be fine, lol. Could have been bad. Need to make sure to put equipment off the ground and (probably) with some kind of cover on top or in a cabinet.
  2. Pull the pictures off the wall before they start peeling themselves off by themselves.
  3. Need a secondary ad blocker/pihole installed elsewhere, was out of commission because I had to run the machine out of the dripping room.
  4. Sleeping with blowers/dehydrators, impossible.

@ai6yr we slept with the dryers/blowers less than 30 feet away with a 5-year old for 6 nights. It was AWFUL. Much more drywall damage happened than I expected (moisture meters are your friend). Insurance covered most of it and did a good job and quickly. But kind of cheaped out on coverage on cosmetic stuff that we just did (paint) in the end. My big worry was black mold (we had some originally in the house) so the sooner that sucker dries the better.

Sigh. Restoration company saying this is going to be a big job. All the carpet will have to come out, and ceilings and walls in several of the rooms. And I caught it within an hour and a half of the break. #plumbing #disaster

@ai6yr ugh! We had water leak through our gutters into a seam in our windows one epic storm and it was a nightmare. The noisy ginormous fans to dehumidify and dry everything out that wasn’t getting replaced were an awful 5-6 day nightmare
