Our electric tea kettle has died after just a few weeks - sprung a leak. This is our third kettle THIS YEAR. Manufacturing is basically crap now, I know, but I really, really need my tea. I gotta solve this. I'm thinking a stovetop kettle? But we have an induction stove.

Any #tea lovers have a favorite teapot/kettle that works on an induction stove?

Classic Hollie move: my pen-pal of several years, who I think is awesome, recently sent me a card and asked if I’d want to exchange actual email addresses since we’re both busy and tend to go too long between sending snail mail. Her card contained her email address. Would I like to write her there? I absolutely would!

And guess what? I’ve lost her card.
Am now sending her a postcard with my email address.
(It’s a miracle I kept track of two children for 20 years.)

At Covid booster today, the guy puts the needle in, takes it out, then gasps and says, "Your skin just pushed it out!" And sure enough, clear liquid is dribbling down my arm. He yells for pharmacist who says I'm probably fine, "you probably got enough". He said he absolutely can't dose me again.

Greg just found this from the CDC, it says in the case of a botched vaccine the person should absolutely be immediately given a second dose. We'll go in tomorrow morning. 😤

I finally found an (available) IFS therapist, and she sent me this link to a YouTube series that introduces Internal Family Systems. It's great! I'm impressed, she's doing a great job giving examples and making the concepts clear.

I can’t handle much Instagram but I logged on for a bit tonight and it was so cool to see so many guys knitting and crocheting! White, BIPOC, straight, queer, there was an amazing and beautiful variety of menfolk doing the fiber crafts and proudly showing off their yarn-y makes, I love it! :) 🧶

A post just went by dealing with world geographical details and as I was hitting "page down" all I saw fly past was a colorful graph and then what I thought was the phrase:

"HOBBITABLE LAND."

And there is nothing remotely rational about this but my heart still flipped over really fast, this micro-second of hope that someone with means had the brilliant idea of turning some huge swath of land into burrow houses and and bare-footed farms with giant pumpkins, and here was their prospectus.

Dinner conversation was me and Jupiter coming up with responses for someone seeing their scars and asking about their (gender affirming) top surgery. I laughed so hard - my favorite was, “Shark attack - the shark got one, and we had to remove the other so I’d stop swimming crooked”.

Next favorites: “I fought ninjas and this was all they took,” and finally, “Lost a bet with the Devil, turns out I’m terrible on the fiddle.”

On a non-Masto site I just saw some unfriendly (and unwelcome) comments about a pregnant woman's shape.

First of all, don't do this. Like, ever. It's exhausting to field random subjective statements about your body.

Second, just FYI - super tall people often don't look pregnant even when they're very far along. Longer torsos give the bebe a lot of room, so their little bodies don't round outward as much. It's still normal. Be delighted by neat anatomical variety. Privately. To yourself.

HOLY CRAP - we're standing outside taking photos and looking at the sun (SAFELY! with filters and glasses and special apps!) and housemate gets this photo and then ZOOMS IN - there's a PARACHUTER!

Oh yeah and I was also saving these for #Caturday. Cal’s love for his box has always been charming in part because he tends to sit in it stiffly, like this is his formal box, not his casual box.

But lately he’s been sinking down, and then one day he actually curled up like a little cinnamon roll and tucked his head in and went to sleep. Didn’t even wake up when I took the photo.

(Last night his sister Chloe tried to get in that box. Cal had some choice words for her.)

Oh, absolutely panicked mum moment.

My son (19, currently in South Korea for school) was just robbed. Their phone and wallet were stolen.

All access to banks and everything ofc goes through the phone. No money for replacing phone, transit card, etc etc.

They did have a tablet back at their dorm (that's how we were able to talk). So they've tracked the phone and are walking to a police station we found nearby to update the report with the location of the phone.

For the last few days I’ve thought that omg.lol is down, and I was surprised no one mentioned it. I was about to post about when I thought to ask Greg whether he can reach it - he can’t. But then he checked downforeveryoneorjustme.com and it turns out it’s down only for us. I’ve never experienced this before. Anyone know why this is happening? I have an account there I can’t reach. It’s so odd!
