@indigoparadox@mastodon.social

I'm interested in things (computers, mostly. Old computers, handheld computers, personal computers, minicomputers, etc). Sometimes I also like manga, Pokemon, Vocaloid, or other things.

I like programming as a hobby. Mainly in C and Python but I try to branch out sometimes if appropriate. I also like sensors and automation. Check my media tab for more!

I am 30 or 40 years old. 🦝

If this factory ever produces a shell that can actually be fired, I'll be very unhappy.

Okay, so I'm going to type out a sentence, and I want you all to finish it, but instead of doing deep thinking about it, just type the very first thing that pops into your head. I know this will be hard for many of you, but try it! LOL

If I could do whatever I wanted to right now, I would _________.

The problem with outsourcing your chat or forum to third parties is that you don't own them. That is correct

The problem with self hosting those things yourself is that 1. nobody will use them because why aren't you just using this 3rd party app that everyone is already using and 2. have fun doing your own spam control

Seems like a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation if you ask me

I had the most lovely dream. All of the emoji for every kind of ant were implemented, and for some reason this was a future were lots of people had free time to just observe nature. Everyone had fanned out to try to document each and every little creature.

There was this feed the emoji of ants people had seen-- and suddenly the emoji for the female forms of Aenictogiton showed up! And this makes no sense since how could there be an emoji of an ant no one has ever seen?! 1/

The nurse just came to draw my mother's blood for her regular INR check and he refused to wear a mask. She's about as high-risk as they come and he said it "wasn't necessary."

I'm not even sure who to complain to, since this is a service that's an alternative to being exposed to even more unmasked by going to the hospital.

I feel helpless, like we're in a war with the structures we should be depending on.

And the able-bodied just don't care because empathy was thin pre-COVID-brain-damage.

My pride kit arrived... I thought I'd try again since I never got first pro kit working. I figured it's unlikely I'd balls each card up the same way twice, right? 😌

Anyway, the issue isn't the ROM card! (Probably.)

I've transcribed what passes for my troubleshooting log from the other site and fixed it up on my web zone: https://indigoparadox.zone/projects/rc2014.html

Feedback is welcome, but I'm not very hopeful right now. Should the backplane be this noisy when the power is off? :thaenkin:

I wish "siri" could help me with real problems she ought to know about:

"Siri, why did the music just pause?" (was it a button press? the screen? my watch? the headphones?)

"Siri make a google calendar event and don't get sassy about it"

"Siri show me a map of the wifi strength in this office"

"Siri is fast charging working? How long until the phone is at 100 percent."

@futurebird @trochee I would like to be able to see my work calendar (from buggy Outlook that forgets to notify me half the time) in my personal calendar (in Google which notifies me on every device, every time) through a common medium like ICS, but in my org that ability is apparently disabled because my work calendar is a sensitive company secret and incompatibility is a security feature. 😩

Occasional reminder that Capitalism is not making a thing and selling it. Capitalism is investing the money you inherited in tools for someone else to make a thing (often driving up the cost of those tools so the maker is even less able to afford them on their own) and then selling the thing they made, collecting most of the profit from the thing they made for yourself.

indigoparadox,
@indigoparadox@mastodon.social avatar

It's very frustrating when folks tell you to "vote with your wallet" under Capitalism, because the shitty people making the shitty decisions for the shitty company you're trying to boycott probably don't even rely on/care about consumer revenue, but rather some weird debt/investment structure completely disconnected from any sort of democratically-influenced incentive system.

Back during I thought I had fried the ROM chip on my FD1100 by attempting to read it with my TL866, as it failed to boot once I put it back together... turns out, on closer inspection, that I had accidentally busted a 16Mhz ceramic oscillator next to the ROM socket, and, while I wasn't able to find an identical part, I replaced it with a common quartz crystal oscillator and now it boots again!

Just need to figure out the Gotek situation, now...

Check out the uneven species distribution of the tiny but fascinating Proceratiinae subfamily of ants. These ants live in moist leaf litter and eat arthropod eggs, often spider eggs. They keep the eggs in their nest, cleaning, and turning them in the manner of their own eggs so they last longer. They may live in any region w/ moist leaf litter & rotting wood. There are likely many new species to discover!

(Probably more of a map of where myrmecologists who like Proceratiinae ants live.)

Typical Proceratiinae queen, wingless from a collection. A well lit photo showing their stubby rounded antennae and distinctive curled under gaster. Though these ants have a stinger they are too small to sting through human skin and do not use the sting for defense against larger animals. They may use it to help them eat the eggs they love to collect and keep in their nests. Photo by Kohichiro Yoshida from flikr https://www.flickr.com/photos/kohichiroh/8749631753/in/photostream/

My favorite genre of manhwa is the one where a character regresses back in time and is able to relive their life, consisting of a series of bullies trying to do social situations to them which they are now able to reverse and win using their past life knowledge and maturity.

@futurebird @irenes "Here's the thing. You said a "pogonomyrmex is a fire ant." Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that..."

"Pogo no Myrmex" (ポゴのマーメクス) sounds like an anime about a little ant that rides around on a pogo stick. It makes me think of the first boss, Mack, from Super Mario RPG.

In senior seminar for my bachelor's, the prof justified her policy against "self-plagiarism" 'cause "if you did work for a client, you wouldn't turn around and sell that to another client." I found that extremely funny at the time since I was doing custom Drupal site/plugin development and I was absolutely doing that 100% as a business model.

Anyway, I thought of that because I got an e-mail with her vaguely-familiar name and when I looked her up it was kinda surreal how old we all are.

Durant isn’t enough! She doesn’t even evolve!

indigoparadox,
@indigoparadox@mastodon.social avatar

@futurebird Very disappointed that Durant didn't make it to Scarlet/Violet... but if the do the Gen V remakes then they can't avoid it any longer!

Funny trivia: Gen V was the first generation to try to use a completely unique new Pokedex for the pre-endgame, I believe. Gen V is also based on New York city. And Durant was introduced in Gen V. So she's an ant from New York! 😌
