Small rant:

I use three monitors at work and now use two at home... which in itself is great.
But there is something that nags me.
When dealing with a multi monitor setup I tend to switch my focus too often between monitors. I ask myself if that is the way to go.
Thinking about rather using one and handling all the windows in different #Xfce workspaces - since switching is easy via keyboard.
Maybe this is just me... but I kinda feel a little disorganized - if that makes sense.

Friends, what internet browser are you using and why?

I want to try something new.

I know this is a bit vague, but I want to know what good (preferably with low need of resources) alternatives are out there.

Thanks! 😎

There are just too many "problems" with C++. I wish modern C++ was something back in the day, so we won't have to suffer.

Libraries still uses iostream to display in stdout/stderr and it's certainly not my favorite. It's slow, bloated, and isn't even describable.

e.g.
std::cout << a.x << " " << a.y << " " << a.z << '\n';
vs
std::println("{} {} {}", a.x, a.y, a.z);

And here we come, standard of string

why:
std::string a = "Hello world";
if (a.find('r') != std::string::npos)
fmt::println("{}", pos);
else
fmt::println("not found");

and why not:
std::string a = "Hello world";
if (a.contains('r')) // Do member function overloading in the class
fmt::println("{}", pos);
else
fmt::println("not found");

why standard doesn't implement trimming functions for white spaces? why do I always have to rely on iterators for such things... (it's just feels like I've to type too much for a basic functionality)

and there's more but let's keep this post small.

Very nice (short and comprehensive) article from @stefano for deploying a jail running XFCE and accessing through a secure xrdp using ssh

Thanks!

    It still feels weird to have a good internet connection after so many years living with very slow internet access.
    I used to wait forever for things to download....
    Nowadays: A couple of minutes and we are all set 😎

    Going from 7 MB/s to 100 MB/s is crazy.

    Fun fact: I used to have videos buffer forever just to watch a portion of them.

    Hi everyone!

    Any suggestions for a good/inexpensive online storage solution? Something for mid-term to long-term storage.

    I'm using FreeBSD so preferably something I could use with rclone, rsync, zfs send (this would be cool), etc.

    Thanks!

    How can I convince someone that having servers running -v to host 100+ VMs (mix of and machines) to run a web hosting operation is not the best idea? 🤔

    How would as the backbone running these VMs could make a difference? Please share your thoughts... I have mine and definitely doesn't involve this setup.

    Cheers and I wish the community a great day!

    That same thought crossed my mind, but the "maaaaaybe" opening happened when you understand Windows is causing them problems and even they know and realize that. Thus my approach to alternative solutions.

    📢 Friends of the 📢
    Just added the "Mastodon Bird UI" theme to bsd.cafe instance! 🎉 This interface resembles the popular social media that has been recently rebranded and is incredibly user-friendly. 🐦💻 Especially on mobile devices and in PWA mode, it's beautiful, lightweight, and well-structured. 😍 Not everyone has access to it yet, as it has to be manually enabled by me for each locale, so you might not find it among the themes.
    If that's the case, let me know!
