1/ Still emotionally bruised from sending the who moved in here in early summer off to a new home yesterday (see yesterday's post) got some of the last photos edited. Heard the young woman who took him is so I hope that means it's going well.
We took turns hanging out with him yesterday, with me he strolled down to the woodcutting area, smelled some squirrel dens, and laid around looking beautiful.

@cohanf when we lived in Toronto, a cat had kittens under my neighbor’s porch. Then the mother went missing. One ran into a neighbor’s garage as he was closing the door & became his. Three others I attracted to my door with meowing recordings (they were so hungry) & captured them. An organization took them. The last I captured with the help of a neighbor across the street. I hid behind my front door while on phone & my neighbor told me when to shut the door. A neighbor took him. @amyfou

Good morning fr . Was going to post before working but things got busy so here I am at almost 11am. But photos are from just after sunrise ~7:25. 🌞 & 28°c (82°F) but I bet it gets to at least 30°c (86°F) - that my unscientific prediction…

These flowers are 6-8” in diameter when fully open. They open at night and close by mid morning and give a delicious fruit some call cactus apples, not to be confused with cactus pears

@Enema_Cowboy TX is a state to avoid for SO MANY reasons fr guns to anti-lgbtq & other regressive laws. I used to fly American Airlines but with so many hubs in risky states, it’s not an airline I would trust: god forbid I was in a crash, would my HB be recognized as my spouse. Now yes but tomorrow? The US is an unsafe country due to regressive & authoritarian states. I sometime go to Canada but when I next fly, only and Air Canada nonstop flight will do regardless of fare. @StillIRise1963

@Enema_Cowboy TX is sliding into fascism so whether DFW is safe for LGBTQ is questionable. I have health issues as well. If I fall ill in TX, an anti-LBGTQ state anything is possible as it’s very likely more laws targeting LGBTQ people will be passed. TX, FL are not dangerous states for LGBTQ. Without rights I will not be safe in DFW. TX, FL, NC, TN … these are all with AA hubs. What if they rerouted me. Would they accommodate me avoiding those states. Of course AA wouldn’t. @StillIRise1963

@Enema_Cowboy DFW is in TX. If I were hospitalized there my HB would have to deal with Texas law. If those laws become more anti gay (not just anti trans) then it’s not a safe. There are great people in TX but atm just the sight of a TX license plate on a car & I shiver. Texas is an anti-LGBT state as it is a misogynist state. Not safe for a pregnant women either; in the event of complications going thru TX a woman’s right to choose is curtailed.Its absolutely terrifying. @StillIRise1963

@StillIRise1963 Glad to hear. Long hair resulted in a lot of TSA annoyances before. I haven’t gone through yet with short hair but long beard. I don’t expect them to be nice. @Enema_Cowboy

@StillIRise1963 If this happened at Customs/Immigration remember next time to ask for his supervisor. As long as you’re an American citizen you have the same rights as inside the country. Don’t ever let a bully immigration officer violate your civil rights when entering the country. He lied and it should have been investigated while put on leave. Your rights were trampled upon based on your color. @Enema_Cowboy

Sick w stomach flu the last 4 days. It’s getting quite old… was hoping to be better today & start work again but still ill this morning. So HB says I must rest. TBH I’m tired & don’t mind the rest (I obviously need it) but I have so much work to do.

Feel-good story! Btw, older people make GREAT friends. My tortoise Andy came to me from one of my greatest and oldest friends, Jerrell. We met when I was 37 and she was 87. An inspiration forever and I’m so happy to have 102-year-old
I’ve always loved older people, or at least the nicer ones!

Good Morning fr . Early start again today to continue to chop up branches and twigs to continue constructing the hügelkultur in the wildlife area. Mostly sunny with 30ºc (86ºF), but it's supposed to get even cooler tomorrow, with rain possible then. Wow! What an interesting Summer. Almost the weekend! Hang in there!

Hügelkultur: A small hill made with various forms of compostable garden waste such as grasses, weeds, twigs and small branches. A loose retaining border made of concrete pieces crosses the area near the bottom from side to side. In the background are various plants such as giant birds of paradise on the left, a san pedro cactus left of center, and an orange tree with 2 agaves below it. Hills like this one are built with branches of different sizes, weeds and other garden "waste" items at different stages of decomposition. Soil, manure, mulch are then added to cover the mass and keep moisture in where the pockets of moist air foster insects, reptiles and fungus life & encourage decay and decomposition, providing an ongoing food source for plants above.

This area is my area and a composting area. I love working there because with the vegetation I planted over the years, it's beautifully shady there. The lighting, the greenery, it's such a lovely place to work!!

Good morning fr . How busy last week was 🙄 . Been clearing trees between our house & one of our neighbors, now that they’ve agreed to it 👍- TONS of work. Plus the heat just starting again and several medical appointments both last and this week.

Good morning fr . Early start today to work on cutting back my neighbor's vegetation on the property line. Her son reached out to me, so they don't have to ask me twice though it may take a bit longer to hire someone for the 2 larger trees thanks to Hilary but I won't hold it against her given all the free water we got.

Good afternoon from where it is raining steadily & 23°c (73°F). Such a departure from anything remotely average, especially this summer.

Liquids only today as I’m due at the colonoscopy center at 6:45am. But everything fine; a bit hungry but working on losing weight anyway 😂

If in SoCal, stay home & safe; roads will be treacherous with this unseasonal very wet weather. But sweet to be saving some 💰 on water. AND in August… unheard of here!

Good late morning from . Moses on the mend but not too excited about first the cone of shame and then the surgery recovery suit because he kept trying to pull out the wound drain with his back claws. Drain to come out Monday but 13 days left of the cone and likely recovery suit. Sorry, Moses! It’s a full time occupation watching him atm.

Very busy day again. Moses going to vet in 10 min for a mysterious puncture injury. I have the cardiologist at 10. Then we test drive a new car at 2. Can’t wait until after the colonoscopy next week and I’m less busy…

@cohanf Gorgeous shots! Your alt-texts are so great. It's nice because I can read it while looking at the photo (except for the bottom 2 where I have to close alt-text to see it). Your rocks are absolutely gorgeous. I garden with rocks a lot here but they are not that beautiful. They are granite, but mostly gray and fairly plain. I didn't realize you were into rocks. I'll have to take photos of my stones. I've unearthed 1000s since arriving here 13 years ago. @plants @nature

Today is a very special day at our house - it's 's third Gotcha Day!

3 years ago this morning I drove to the Benson Animal Shelter with all my fingers and toes crossed that she'd be there.

She came out of that kennel like a rocket, and we tried a little walkies before getting in the car for the i.e. 30min drive home.

She spent that whole walk joyously jump-biting me. 😍 🎉
