Time to continue/finish the porch floor. Second coat applied except remaining to be applied where I piled all my stuff up.

Initially, before all my health troubles, I’d started painting the porch as a color test. But it all came suddenly to a stop when I had to face some major heart as well as spinal issues. 7 years later: here I am continuing. Better late than never!

Went to the with . We’re working on some major fear issues he has which we blame on his training.

We walked 1/2 mile up the trail. I wanted to make the 1-mile marker but Moses is just too nervous. It forced me to constantly look ahead for dangerous drops on the edge of the trail & asses the risk which triggered my vertigo.

Great workout though. We’re going to do wider, less risky trails for now until he’s more at ease with the because as soon as we cross into slightly more wild areas, his nervousness kicks in.

But practice makes perfect and he’s a great dog who wants to do well. And we both love spending time and going out with each other. .

It breaks my heart but I just decided that Friday’s appointment is too long a wait for given her increasing difficulties eating, so I’ve moved up the to late Wednesday. This is so painful for me. But I try to imagine what she’s going through and I think it’s the right, generous, humane thing to do.

When my time comes, if only it could be this easy, for a human too.

Good morning fr . It’s going to be a nice 🌤️ day but cool with a high of only 19°c (66°F)

The satsumas are changing colour very fast now that our nights are turning colder. Last night our low was 7°c (44°F) so for us this is Winter weather already! Beautiful weather to get a lot of gardening done! 😃 I’ll take winter over Summer anytime here!

Wishing everyone a happy & productive week ahead!

Sad news yesterday. ’s cancer is progressing very fast. She has very little time left. I'm feeling devastated, but I don't want to bring her down so I’ll wait until after she's gone to fall apart, though I won't have time to, because Moses will need a lot more attention then. It's sad, but it's life. Her difficulties eating are increasing very fast. I'm so thankful for my wonderful vet!!! She is such an amazing dog. I will do miss her. We have a appointment in 6 days.

Good morning fr . Omg! Where have I been the last 5 days?! has a way of making time fly, especially if I’m busy gardening and on top of that a multi-day storm is said to be coming. 🙀 😆 But hyper focus is also confusing 🫤

Winter has more or less arrived for us it looks like. We had a good amount of rain yesterday and despite day 2-3 of the storm being revised to 🌤️ day 4 is still tentatively scheduled.

Today, I’d hoped to continue on (re-)potting plants and succulent cuttings but I must get more pots & potting soil first.

Here is a plant that fell over when branches pruned off the big tree fell on it. For potted plants, especially bushy ones, I now use tri/quad-pod support I make out of ribs from fronds. Works incredibly well at preventing various plants from toppling so far! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 Here, I’m using them to straighten a aka , a native from

Today 🌤️ & 18°c (64°F) though it’s ☁️ atm.

Quad pod stakes “system” in place and African milk bush standing straight again.

One issue I have with is that many dictate the position you should be in in order to do them. I wonder if other folks find that to be sometime counterproductive. For me, relaxation implies being physically as much at ease as possible. I know there are reasons why I should be sitting 🪑 and not lying down. Or lying down and not sitting. BUT if I’m uncomfortable, relaxing is very hard.

Capitalism is not your or anyone else's friend.

From this article:
"At 124.5 meters long, the [helium filled] Pathfinder 1 dwarfs the current Goodyear airships and even the massive Stratolaunch plane designed to launch orbital rockets. It’s the largest aircraft to take to the skies since the gargantuan Hindenburg airship of the 1930s."

https://techcrunch.com/2023/11/08/the-worlds-largest-aircraft-breaks-cover-in-silicon-valley/

From an article on NBC news-dot-com:

"An MRI can’t function without some 2,000 liters of ultra-cold liquid helium keeping its magnets cool enough to work. But helium — a nonrenewable element found deep within the Earth’s crust — is running low, leaving hospitals wondering how to plan for a future with a much scarcer supply."

jeanoappleseed,
@jeanoappleseed@vivaldi.net avatar

@Frances_Larina Sounds like a great idea if helium were abundant… otherwise just another project by people who have so much money they don’t know what to do with it. What I love is that its clean power is by “Twelve electric motors powered by diesel generators and batteries.” Diesel is such a ‘clean fuel’ 😮

jeanoappleseed,
@jeanoappleseed@vivaldi.net avatar

@Frances_Larina Essentially. Mind you, where I live electric cars are mostly powered by coal because it’s what produces the better part of our electricity. And as demand from electricity goes up from an increase in electric cars we will need even more coal-produced power because we’re already struggling with too much demand from the grid. I see birds fly, squirrels run their entire lives, all without coal, oil or nuclear power. Yet we claim we are the most intelligent.

My assistants like it when I work while sitting on the bed, so they can doze off next to me, comfortably. Lol.

I discovered a leveling issue with my drawing (not unlike could have happened in real-life): one of the post is at a slight angle, so I get to learn a good way to correct that today :) learning is always good.

Construction drawing of a brown fence, with mostly vertical boards and a combination of horizontal and vertical trim boards. These are held on each side by posts anchored in a below-ground concrete base.

Good morning fr . A slower day today hopefully. Garden is all watered so I will try to finish my fence plans/quote today so I can discuss it with my neighbor this weekend.

Yesterday, I decided to try the from what I call my OJ tree which grows the juiciest, seeded, very low-pulp oranges. Still very tart, but nonetheless delicious. Each orange yields 1/2 cup atm. It’s still very early for that tree. All my other varieties are still green because we haven’t had a lot of cold yet. Most oranges should be ripe within 2 months but my OJ variety can sometime make me wait several more months for the sweetest juice.

The weekend is also here so I’m wishing everyone a great 2 days off. And if you’re in Canada/US don’t forget to switch back to at 2am Sunday!! 🙄

On the left side, a blue glass two thirds filled with fresh squeezed orange juice. To the right, the juicer’s lower juice catcher. Behind it some sourdough starter. To the left of the glass, an upside down spoon. Other indistinguishable objects in background.
Three large oranges held in a hand. Fridge in background.
Large orange tree filled with oranges in the upper part of the shot, and the trunk below. Other vegetation around it with bare soil under. A pinkish fence in the right side background. Watering wand on the left side foreground with water spraying out of it.

I think the basic problem with major party politicians these days is they're mostly careerists who lack any ideological underpinnings.

Past politician: "Here are our policies, please endorse them."

Present politician: "What do you want? Do you like that? Or that? What about this? I can change that to something else, or just support the complete opposite if you like. What do you WANT?"

No one likes someone that needy. No wonder we all feel like giving them a good slap.

(Not endorsing violence in the real world of course. But crikey they're not helping.)

a big part of my life is not getting significantly more disabled because of covid

"but i cant live my life without exposing myself to pathogens constantly"

jeanoappleseed,
@jeanoappleseed@vivaldi.net avatar

@whitequark I wear a mask not because I’m scared of Covid nor is it because I’m running from it. But due to many preexisting disabling issues (notably w heart, spine) preventing me from being productive for more than 7 years, wearing a mask to protect myself from sick people who cough without caring who they infect is just basic hygiene. I am sick enough as it is, I don’t need even a basic cold to stop me in my tracks. I have a century old home on a 12000 sq ft lot and I am so behind from being sick already & so busy; if I don’t do my work everything starts piling up and degenerates. I want to live a productive life without respiratory illnesses that get passed on because people are so sloppy they don’t care if they cough in crowds and infect others.
