@stux You can always put a fake birthdate (which I did when someone invited me). I don't use it much though since I like it here better.

Looking in vain, so far, for a good rain jacket (for walking/hiking) that doesn't insist that I advertise the company that's selling it.

I really dislike this trend, and it seems to be getting worse.

@dangillmor This is likely to avoid copyright issues and lawsuits which are very common in the fashion/clothing world. It sucks for sure but it is what it is.

@dangillmor I have noticed in the last few years especially where clothing manufacturers put their logos onto everything in order to attempt to avoid these issues.

I know it doesn't make sense even to me although the Louboutin red sole case a few years back kind of caused a lot of clothing and fashion companies to be cautious.

@janettespeyer Basically, if you follow a person on Mastodon from your chosen instance, you can see that person on the home timeline no matter what software you use.

Basically, both parties in Congress -- and legislators in both blue and red states -- want to turn the Internet into a China-style police state, where all activity is tracked and tied to government IDs. Even if you trust one party not to abuse this, imagine when the other party gets into power! All of this is being leveraged on a "protect the children" basis where the legislative demands would be ineffective at preventing children from accessing the materials of concern, trample on the rights of adults to use the Net, and actually expose children to more risks from abusive parents. That's the bottom line.

@lauren Yep, that's what they're trying to do by passing the KOSA, EARN IT, and STOP CSAM Acts just to name a few.

They're more of a series of censorship bills in disguise.

@Em0nM4stodon Yep, it's more of a reason why you and people that you care about get in touch with your Senators to let them know what they currently stand and encourage them to vote NO.

Both parties instead of passing real privacy reform, want people like us to not exist that's perfectly clear.

There's a guy who has good points about the fediverse and mastodon specifically and the problems with Eugen but he's also getting angry with some people who seem to be engaging in good faith and just don't understand what he's saying.

Text is hard, people are going to misunderstand. If you're saying something like “we gotta lose Eugen", expect to have to explain yourself more than once.

@ParadeGrotesque 48 months is a fair point. Three years is mostly fair enough as well since regulation is inevitable.

The gaming industry I can see a 18-36 month period at the current rates.

They're already starting to piss off consumers and customers and I feel that the coming gaming generation would be its final form (going all in on diskless consoles and subscriptions).
