I've got some awesome news for #linux folks today! @kenvandine dropped by my house on his way to Mackinac island and I got the full tour of #ubuntu core desktop. The TLDR is. It is not just good, it's looking great, and the better news is that it's the same model.

Which by the way, is available as a public image, people just haven't found it and realized you can splat it onto a disk. Everything I will talk about in this thread is all public, no secrets. Here's the lowdown:

I've been kicking around the idea of a "cloud native terminal" for a while now. It comes down to, if I can do 99% of my work in a distrobox why not just be there all the time.

I've been doing custom gnome-terminal configs and stuff for a while but it's time to try to make a terminal where it's just built in, and then just leave the default host terminal there for the system level stuff if I need it:

Here's a real-world problem the Linux desktop can actually help solve.

It took the repairability movement longer than we hoped but it's here now, and we have that image-based model for distros.

We can provide a chromebook-like experience but with way more options, flexibility, and better tooling for organizations.

Finished Bluefin today, it's all downhill from here! That's right @kyle . Once bketelsen figured out how to get brew back on the host without busting host things it was all over.

I just found out that @craigmaloney passed away this morning after a two year battle with cancer.

Back when I first got into Linux your local LUG was where you went to hone your skills and meet new friends. That was over 20 years ago. We bonded over Linux and heavy metal.

A bunch of us visited him a few months ago and we decided to do a weekly listening party of every #rush album and had folks join in. I know it meant a lot to him. Rest in peace friend.

Nirav's #1 is making these laptops the best for #linux - New meteor lake, and the new display looks great, 120hz with VRR.

They purposely picked 2880x1920 so that Linux users can avoid fractional scaling entirely.

Can retrofit it onto existing 13's too! I'm totally getting the display because of the rounded corners. Ximian #GNOME lives!
