@freemo It wasn't a disaster, it was a good system. It is still better than the USA where they let you get sick so they can charge you for treatment. And the pandemic response was poor in the USA because there was no national coordinated response.

At the moment it is being undermind by the Tories with their private finance initiatives (which were invented by the Tories) making NHS pay high interest rates to private banks.

If I want to use with desktop how do I do it? Do I have to have a security USB stick? I am not sure of the point of that. It seems easier to carry on using a password manager.

@ljrk I got this error message when I tried to set up passkeys for google:

"A passkey can’t be created on this device
Make sure your device’s operating system is up to date, your screen lock and bluetooth are enabled, and that you’re using a supported browser like Chrome. Learn more". I don't have bluetooth. So that's it, is dead on arrival.

@ljrk @MysticBearPaw You can rotate your site keys with SQRL. If you lost your master key you would have to create a new identity. I am not sure why that is worse than not having one in the first place. What happens to passkeys if you lose your phone or your PC dies? You need to get your keys from a backup, in the cloud? I think I would rather one key printed out on a piece of paper.

As for the cloud not being scary, well I am a lastpass user, so I know how scary the cloud is.

About GDPR, I think it's so much more than "the cookie law”. In retrospect, it achieved exactly what it was designed to do - make it possible to see what's really happening with our data.
That we blindly accept cookie banners without holding companies accountable for doing so much tracking (or as devs, using tools without asking if the data they gather is needed) is totally on us. GDPR did give us the means, we're not yet taking full advantage of it. 🔐

@steve @konstantin Well that's an idealistic view, that websites must change, but they show know signs of changing, so a pragmatic view would be for a change in the law which requires some standardised process so that it is only necessary to consent once.
