We are finishing up our work on our fork wiki! We know a lot of you really want to see refreshed and hopefully better Minecraft Wiki, we are getting really close to it now.

Meanwhile, give Indie Wiki Buddy a try: https://getindie.wiki/, it's a browser extension giving independent wikis more visibility by informing you when visiting their unfriendly equivalent.

If you are confused, see our previous post on what a fork is: https://wikis.world/@MinecraftWikiEN/110810862033280907

The Verge published an interesting interview with the CEO of , Perkins Miller.

Some of the nonsense includes Miller referring to wikis as "blogs" twice, as well as calling Fanatical "the leading online commerce platform if you want to buy an online video game".

I've recently made some big updates to Cite Unseen, a user script on the English that adds icons to citations to help indicate their reliability and nature (such as when a source is an advocacy group, government-controlled, opinion piece, etc.)

Th updates include new icons for satirical and sponsored articles, new configuration options for users, more reliable citation detection, improved runtime, and many new domain categorizations.

Cite Unseen was also recently featured on Headbomb's @WikiSignpost article, "Citation tools for dummies!" There are many tools worth checking out.

@stefan Same here, I spun up my own server in February and that DO one-click app made it super simple. Hopefully it'll be updated to the latest version soon.

kevin,

@stefan Yepyep, it's not too tough. Just worried about unsuspecting new users not being aware they're spinning up an outdated version with vulnerabilities.

kevin,

@stefan Good stuff! I wish I found your blog post months ago. I just started running FediFetcher a few weeks ago and it's really improved my experience.

I'll try out your extension soon.

After nearly two decades in the informal-but-awesome @creativecommons community, I’m now taking a formal position by joining the CC board.

I’m hoping to use the role — and this unique moment, driven by machine learning’s fusion of content and functionality — to build more bridges between open source and open culture, and ensure that there’s a role for open, and the commons, in this new moment.

Late-night thinking about how generative AI might impact the sharing of "new knowledge" online. With chatbots and search engines returning AI, it's bound to reduce traffic to wikis, review sites, blogs, forums, etc. Similar fear that Google's Knowledge Graph introduced - less traffic means less potential contributors.

Will there be a reduction in people updating wikis? Sharing their solutions on Stack Overflow? Will most of our knowledge sharing turn to just feeding the black boxes of AI?

"We find that relative to its Russian and Chinese counterparts, where access to ChatGPT is limited, and to similar forums for mathematics, where ChatGPT is less capable, activity on Stack Overflow significantly decreased."

There used to be (still is?) a tool for @wikipedia editathon organizers where, given the usernames of the editors at the editathon, you could track their edits. Does that still exist? I’m failing to find it. :/

@luis_in_brief @wikipedia The Outreach Dashboard! Once you set up an event, you can provide a list of users and it will track all their edits in the event's timeframe.

mastodon_get_replies is now FediFetcher!

FediFetcher is a simple Python script that can help you pull missing responses from other instances into your own instance. It can also backfill profiles of new followers and followings.

It can be run as cron job, container, or even a GitHub action, meaning you don't need any infrastructure at all.

For more information check out

@michael I've started using this for my personal server and it's made using Mastodon a lot more lively and enjoyable. Thanks for making this!
