That we're living in the '20s sounds so weird - like it's the 1920s.
It sounds like a bygone time when women were still fighting for their rights, the rich were living a life of hedonism and preying on cheap labour whilst people starved, and the world was on the verge of financial ruin and war...

This paper is really important, presenting empirical evidence of the imbrication bet. AI & the surveillance biz model. This is notable particularly given that most production surveillance tech is proprietary, its existence and use hidden from the public.

So, live in a cave, then? The burden of surveillance self-defense should not fall to individuals or require us to restrict our participation in society. I shouldn't have to wear weird makeup to foil facial recognition cameras just to go buy some food at the grocery store. "Boycotting" that store only works if you have multiple options and if all those options aren't also using facial recognition software. And the Ring doorbell cams and automatic license plate readers that tracked you on the way to the store? Can't exactly boycott those. Surveillance is privacy pollution and needs to be regulated (out of existence, imo) just like air or water pollution.

These are policy choices, not personal ones.

    Firefox is in trouble.

Ideally, I usually prefer to promote good news, as opposed to bad news, especially when I am passionate about a project or development. I am a firm believer in both herd mentality and self-fulfilling prophecies.

I want to make it clear, my primary web browser of choice is still Firefox and I still regularly contribute to Mozilla.

But as I said, and I hate to write this, Mozilla Firefox is in trouble.

    1/

    #Mozilla #Firefox #Internet #WordWideWeb

    Linux_Is_Best,

I have been using a program known as, "PortMaster" to track all my incoming and outgoing connection.

As one of the unlucky people experiencing the "WideVine Issue" among T-Mobile Home Internet and Comcast Xfinity customers, I noticed WideVine is downloaded from a few sources (server locations).

One of those locations, Firefox does not check, but all the Chromium-type browser pull from when they have exhausted the other locations, which time out.

    10/

    Linux_Is_Best,

By "excluded" I mean to say, you have a growing number of websites and service providers, who are not thoroughly vetting to ensure their services are compatible with Mozilla Firefox.

But you also have another side, where end-users, are struggling to even complete the extra installations of Firefox so that it can completely function in our modern day web.

Like it or not, DRM content has rooted itself into The Internet, and without you're not going to have such an enjoyable experience

    9/

    Linux_Is_Best,

As previously stated, the resolve was to circumvent my ISP, as others had done.

But I got to asking, how many people do you suppose would go to such lengths? The average end-users will not know what the problem is or how to diagnose such a problem.

They are likely to install another browser, see that it works, and move on.

Unfortunately, that is true even for those not experiencing the "WideVine Issue." As more websites and services don't optimize for Firefox, most try another browser

I usually don't do new year resolutions, but I've made a few simple and sustainable ones this time:

    • Schedule for wakeup, lunch, workday end (I overwork myself often), and going to bed.
    • More consistent workouts. I've fluctuated between 2-5 days per week, and I'm committing to 5!
    • Weed break. x3

I try not to let it show or take over, but the last quarter of 2023 was ROUGH.

Hip pains resurfaced and I messed up my wrist, both of which screwed up my workout routines and killed my motivation. Low light in Seattle winters + seasonal affective disorder. World events and feeling lonely / extra single.

Physically I'm much better and am being careful not to push too hard with workouts. Emotionally more centered. Still working out what "putting myself out there" looks like for me, but trying. ❤️

Upgraded the puppy cage to a puppy condo. I found a playpen I could snap to the cage and now he has a whole area I can leave him be in my room without worrying about accidents. Even my older dog is coming around to the puppy and hanging out near the cage to chew their ears and hides.

The detailed daily PCR test & case data for Queensland has been updated, up to January 1.

PCR Cases (7-day running average) fell sharply around the Christmas holiday period.

As the volume of tests also fell and the % Positive (17%) didn't fall much, this doesn't look like a real peak, sadly.

We'll get a clearer picture in a week or so.
