Heat detection data from GOES West satellite shows general location of in Klamath National Forest, northern CA.

Data is only approximate location. Some heat detections might just be smoke with embers but not (at least yet) fire on the ground.

Never rely on any map to ignore an order to evacuate.

I am looking for recommendations for ‘best practices’ for producing evacuation maps due to wildland fires.

What are the characteristics of a good evacuation map?
What not to do when making an evacuation map?

I live in the wildland urban interface of King County WA (county seat Seattle). My plan is to find out what the county would currently do for an evacuation map and then suggest improvements.

The first identification of victims -- a family of four--lived in this block in -- found in their car not far from their home. This entire corner would have likely been a no-way-to-exit zone with fire/powerlines down, as I identified a couple of days ago.

@ai6yr We live at the end of a 1-lane road. For the first 1/4 mile that is the only way out. Lots of trees on both sides. In the remote chance that we would be suddenly surprised by fire and not able to use that road, then our backup route is to drive across our pasture, cut through the wire fence and continue through the neighbor's pasture to a county road.

I bought a special tool just for cutting that fence.

@ai6yr In the past Civil Air Patrol disaster photos show up online as GIS data. But it is not clear to me whether that is still the case. I will keep an eye on some GIS addresses to see if any of that data appears.

This lawsuit could bar Trump from ever holding elected office.

The Constitution’s bars anyone who gave “aid or comfort” to people participating in the January 6th insurrection.

Florida Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the lawsuit for lack of standing.

The plaintiff, @realJohnACastro, has asked the supreme court to reverse that decision so the case can be decided on the merits.

Infrared flight last night 8:17pm. IR analyst determined 1,176 acres burned. However, analyst was not able to fully review area shaded white on the map.

Highway 20 (North Cascades Highway) is currently closed.

Fire is now in North Cascades National Park. This area has not burned in well over 20 years.
