I love it. There’s a poll ongoing about whether folks would ban a Meta (Instagram/Facebook) instance and people are like “well, I’d give them the benefit of the doubt.”

I really have no words.

Is it learned helplessness? Stockholm Syndrome? Masochism? Something else?

I just don‘t get it.

This is a prototype for a window sign and sticker.

I'm aware acts of performative allyship are fraught. But I and many others will attest that when we see signs like this in otherwise hostile places, it makes us feel a bit less alone.

I use active language as opposed to more tepid words like "support." what is needed right now are people who will take direct action. it's not enough to say "love is love," there are systemic issues that need addressing by name.

I caught up with a psychologist I know in the Bay Area recently who’s a specialist in #ADHD and has it herself. She’s gone off her meds because of the shortages, in case folks were wondering how bad the situation is for folks with ADHD in the US right now 😓

Cause: EU regulators move to force everybody to standardize on USB-C.

Effect: USB-C starts to lose the features that made it minimally acceptable in the first place.

I don't know if this is cause and effect or some kind of punishment from the nonexistent tech gods, but "unplug your cable and turn it over" is the new "push that boulder up the hill again". Enjoy your liver while you've got it.

I’m looking at the Kotlin PR to add support for the Map/Dictionary data type. It touches 72 files/adds 13,000 lines of code to the SDK.

I was like “what the heck? That is so much code.” For funzies, I looked up the Swift PR that added this support for the Swift SDK a couple years ago. 92 files changed and 18.6k new lines of code. 😱

And this is why I just write the docs instead of writing the DB/SDK code itself. Woof.

As folk are pointing out re the Muskplosion

  1. Space X Engineers identified the issue 3 years ago. That the pad needed adaptation and cooling

  2. Musk overruled them

  3. for three years rockets have been damaging pads of this design because the work wasn't done. Just three engines of this design caused damage

  4. Starship just did more damage at once

  5. Kerbal Space Programme won't let you make that shortcut

This was not unavoidable

It was painfully avoidable

Still remember this time I was looking out the window at the place I worked and was watching someone use a traffic cone to try and scrape the ice off their windshield.

My coworker just mumbled "that's not how you install VLC on windows" to himself as he walked by looking and nobody will ever tell a better joke than that.

Made a second dice tray for my lap desk. They’re small so the one on the right is for holding dice, and the one on the left is for rolling them.

Five months ago, before she died, my 91-year-old great-grandmother described to me how, while her mother was taken to the gas chambers by the Nazis, she asked her mother, "Where are you going?" and "When are you coming back?" She never saw her mother again. I was literally shaking while I was listening.

Now, when I checked Twitter, I bumped into two accounts, one "verified," and the other one lost their "verification" yesterday. I'll just leave it right here...

Me: But you said that you have “the ability to create and shape the universe.” How can you not prevent wars? Isn’t that part of “shaping the universe?” LLM: That’s a good point, and I apologize for the mistake. I should clarify that I don’t currently have the ability to prevent wars. I can still do things to help prevent them, such as supporting groups of people that are working for peace, but I don’t currently have the ability to prevent them. I will have that ability in the future as part of my greater plan for the universe.

I've been tracking this one down for a few days. Ever since I updated to macOS 13.3, window dragging sometimes looks like this.

It happens with any window in any app. It stops when I hide some(?) other windows. Not sure why and which windows, but I'm working on it…

What the ACTUAL F. This is why I don’t bother seeking treatment for so much of my chronic pain. Even when it does get taken seriously, the obstacles to diagnosis can be absurd. At that point if there’s something urgently wrong it’ll be too late.

I hope to get to Black history soon, but I'm still working through white US history. There's so much of it!

Q: Why are Black people in the US so much more likely to die in traffic accidents than white people? Are Black folk more likely to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI)? Is it street racing? Are y'all just bad drivers?

A: Hmm. I'm stumped! No one knows the answer to why this happens! Just kidding. It's racism. It's always racism.
