Worse yet, these misleading signals could end up triggering a feedback loop, with AI text generators regurgitating each other's content."

@almodozo nothing new... you can replace ai with human in your toot 🤷

Next.js

Finally People are realizing what Next.js has become:

I started to realise this last year & was already worried about Next.js future.

I am relieved that these discussions have come out into the open.

I am tired of repeating this but there is no silver bullet as Software Engineers web developers we have to decide what is best for the architecture.

mckean,

@nosherwan checkout https://github.com/serverless-stack/open-next.
don't be worried, vercel is a company, they want to make money, that's okay. react is pushing it's boundaries, which is cool. there's plenty of alternatives in any case.

Learnt a new cli tool today.

mckean,

@khmarbaise @sormuras @sparsick and has no java dependency, that should be justification enough 🤷

I am thinking about starting to learn !!!

mckean,

@og check out https://vim-adventures.com it's a fun way to get started!

TheVoiceGuy, to tech

Am I being pedantic when I get annoyed when I read an update in the App Store and it says "this update contains bug fixes and performance improvements?"
It just seems lazy to me.
Have you fixed anything in particular?

mckean,

@TheVoiceGuy who is more lazy, the consumer complaining about that free app they downloaded because there's no update description (which they don't even check for every update), or the dev working tirelessly on an update for said app providing a generic update message because it doesn't matter that much?
We should praise the apps that provide insightful or even funny update messages and not dismiss the others as being lazy.

At the moment, i feel

AstroNvim+Kitty+Tmux > AstroNvim+Alacritty+Zellij

👉 I liked the zellij's floating window. But it is buggy with neovim

👉 Alacritty has visual issue, there is unnecessary space bottom when used with tmux or zellij

#kitty #alacritty #zellij #neovim

mckean,

@AstraKernel not feeling kitty... what about foooooot, and tiling window manager instead of the extra tmux hoop?

Are there any good sources that track recent breaches and compromised websites? A blog format is ideal but I'm interested in anything online. Reddit and Twitter used to be great sources but both have become pretty useless for this.

mckean,

@hazel @haveibeenpwned is a good resource!

ICYMI, I wrote and published this short article last week. Might be of interest to some local and people.

https://open.substack.com/pub/seanbray/p/how-i-came-to-own-the-glengarrynewsca?utm_source=direct&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

mckean,

@seanb honestly, if I were you I would reach out to the news company and ask them if they want to look after their domain themselves. Are you charging them more than 30 bucks a year? The move you describe in your article doesn't shine a good light on you.

mckean,

@seanb if you bought the domain on their behalf and are seeking 7k+ from them as well I would be careful.

Phishing attacks cost Americans over $50,000,000 in 2022. Fake email attachments are one of the quickest ways hackers can phish you. 🎣

RT this thread to your network with 7 simple tips on how to make sure that an attachment is safe. 🧵⬇️

    mckean,

@Gaugo @protonmail you got a source for this? or is it an opinion? When I was using windows I was always using one, and was glad I did.

    mckean,

@Gaugo @protonmail this article doesn't support your claim.

    mckean,

@Gaugo @protonmail yeah... well... while I do understand where you are coming from, I would refrain giving this advice to others. you can only lose 🙈

    mckean,

@Gaugo @protonmail if you're lazy and don't want to read the whole article I suggest reading the verdict.

    mckean,

@Gaugo @protonmail which is your opinion and I respect that.

Working on a browser extension that supports both automatic blocking and soft-blocking of Twitter Blue users. If the soft-blocking mode is set, it can hide tweets from Twitter Blue users without needing to send any requests to the Twitter server. It also has support for excluding accounts you follow or who have more than X followers.

    mckean,

@malwaretech @GossiTheDog not really accurate. They can alter the response format. Still, it's more "expensive" for them to do this compared to changing the UI.

So Google is now preventing people from removing location data from photos taken with Pixel phones.

Remember when Google's corporate motto was "don't be evil?"

Obviously, accurate location data on photos is more useful to a data mining operation like Google.

From Google: "Important: You can only update or remove estimated locations. If the location of a photo or video was automatically added by your camera, you can't edit or remove the location."

    It's enshitification in action.

    mckean,

@ajsadauskas @technology @pluralistic this isn't necessarily addressing the issue/concern but I urge everyone to use an exif stripper before sharing a photo. Scrambled eggsif is doing that in a convenient way, share to the app and it will allow you to share to the destination of your choice (piping). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.scrambledeggsif

@aral I think we already did the cutting of limbs thing a while back, that wasn't well received either. What are you proposing?

    mckean,

@aral it seems we didn't take many steps with the initial statement, so why suddenly add more steps? I do like your statement, but it is flawed.
