Israel is a powerful nuclear-armed nation. They are never going to abandon Israel, and will never accept any political solution as long as they are routinely attacked. And no one can force them to do otherwise. Qatar knows this, yet they continue to fund Hamas. They work both sides against the middle and the middle always loses. Someone must start preaching meaningful compromise or this could go on for decades if not centuries.

But I do wonder if we’ve overestimated the threat in more recent times. Nothing but crickets outside his trials. Maybe there would be nothing but crickets if he was jailed for violating a gag order.

Latest reminder that the Trump stolen-classified-documents case judge is effectively a member of the defense team:

"Judge Pushes Back Critical Filing Deadline in Trump Documents Case

"Judge Aileen M. Cannon did not immediately set a new date, but the delay increases the chance that the trial will not happen before the November election."

Justice Merchan starts off will the prosecution motion for contempt.

He tells Trump he's about to issue his ruling, in which he will again find Trump in contempt of court.

The last thing I want to do is put you in jail, Justice Merchan says to Trump. You are the former President of the United States and possibly the next President as well.

But "going forward," he continues, "this court will have to consider jail sanctions" if necessary.

The right kept their eye on the Supreme Court prize for 50 years. They waited that long to get a majority that would do whatever they wanted. Unfortunately, it paid off.

At least some of the left doesn’t seem to be nearly as focused on the Supreme Court as the right was. These are lifetime appointments and there is no quick fix. We have to wait it out and keep our eye on the prize, like the right did.

@GottaLaff I admit I've been really unsure about what would happen if Trump were to be incarcerated (and there's been a LOT of noise about how the Secret Service wouldn't "allow" it).

But now it appears the answer was simple all along: "If he needs to go to jail, we'll just figure out a way to guard him while he's in jail. No big deal."

@shoq These are improvements. In the past, I’ve seen sketches of Trump that incorrectly depict him as younger, slimmer and having good posture.
