Three years. Three fucking years of zero #COVID in my home.

Now my husband is quarantined downstairs for who knows how long, and I’m building a Corsi-Rosenthal box for the living room, because the HEPA air purifier with the UVC light is camping downstairs with him.

I tested negative earlier tonight, really hoping I manage to stay that way.

Is there a #peony community on masto? I received flowers as a gift, and now I NEED to know what this one is, so I can try to grow them. I live in Interior #Alaska, so any zone 4 and up varieties are out right off the bat…

From what I’ve read, I think this would be considered a “semi-double” bloom? [edit] After looking online for HOURS, I'm pretty sure it's not a Buckeye Belle or a Chief Black Hawk. Black Panther is my current leading candidate.

Hey look! It’s “Fuck Gen X Again,” COVID Edition!

According to this graph, 9% of Gen Xers who have gotten Covid have symptoms lasting at least 3 months? And almost 5% of Gen X Covid survivors currently have Long Covid symptoms. (Honestly, seems low according to the folks I know who’ve had COVID, but OK.)

Been wandering around pointing my phone at plants around the house with iNaturalist. ID’d three edible things last night, and learned that the same plant is called both “highbush cranberry” and “lowbush cranberry” which, WTF? :blobcatglare: (edit: Apparently even “authoritative” internet plant ID reference material is garbage, and these are nothing like lowbush cranberries.)

So anyway, I tried to eat one and it was so tart/sour I spit it out. How do people eat those things? :blobcattilt:

SUPER fucking excited to get an updated #COVID booster!

I’ve heard the updated vaccines should be hitting Fairbanks #Alaska as soon as Friday, and I’ve been very nervous about how long it’s been since my last booster—almost 7 months. :blobcatfearful: (I’d been getting updated every 4–6 months until now.)

Tonight was morel risotto and seared #Alaska weathervane #scallops, with fresh grated parm & green onions. :blobcatjustright:

TBH the morel flavor kinda got lost in the risotto. If we get a third bag with the veg subscription this year, I think I’ll do a light cream sauce pasta instead. :blobcatthinking:

Got my eleventy-sixth COVID booster today… (OK, really, I think it’s #8) Was really hoping to get #Novavax but the pharmacy was out, so another round of Moderna #Spikevax it is.

I’ll check again if anyone in town has Novavax in June, but what I’m not doing again is putting off a booster until a specific one is available. Last time I did that, waiting for the XBB booster release, I got covid instead. Sticking to whatever is available every four months from here on out.

My lungs hurt. Feels like back when I still smoked cigarettes, and would get drunk and smoke a whole pack in a day. 😶‍🌫️😮‍💨

I’m assuming it’s related to the fact that I can look out my windows and see smoke haze in the trees, and if I step out the door everything smells like a campfire, and my car is covered in wood ash.

A Hairy Woodpecker visited the bird feeder today.

TIL Hairy & Downy #woodpeckers have almost identical markings, but Downys are smaller, have smaller beaks in relation to their heads, and have speckled feathers on the sides of their tails. Hairys, OTOH, have a less adorable name, larger beaks, and white side feathers on their tails.
