She/her :blobcatheartlesbian: ex-software dev now writing words for money, fun, and/or survival. I like new people but may be too busy to follow back.

Republicans have campaigned on killing me and mine my whole life, so "Democrats are just as bad" crap gets a fuck off and an unfollow.

I have a soft spot for Libertarians even though I shouldn't and they don't deserve it. When I was a kid I had a weird neighbor who was always giving me Libertarian books... I wish I still had some of them they were WILD. He was a thorn in the side of the local, school board as well insisting that if they had an event at the school that involved politics Libertarians had to be included.

And in defense of the guy, he was about as likable and earnest as a Libertarian could be.

@futurebird There was a real "left libertarian" movement. A lot of it was queer, and a lot of it died before AZT.

The survivors and most of the rest of it either went to the Democrats for survival, with a few going anarcho-leftist of one sort or another.

That left the "right libertarians" who no longer had to bargain with the left and, well, we know how that went.

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@ehproque @futurebird Oh, I missed this one. No, I mean they drifted towards various subfactions of anarchism that I don't really remember well enough to identify anymore. I think one of them going on about it was part of how I ended up reading The Conquest of Bread, but that's kind of a foundational text as I understand it so not really helpful at identifying any particular subfaction.

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@futurebird @jonquass @ehproque for reals. I’ve never got to vote for someone I actually like for President and most certainly never will. I, too, vote to choose my opponent, and can acknowledge less bad is better than more bad.

Speaking more personally, hoping you get the opponent who isn’t actively trying to kill you has been the point of queer voting most of my life. Being able to take an aesthetic position (yes, I’ve peeked further down this thread) means you’re sure you’ll survive no matter who is in power, and we don’t and have never had that - regardless of what some people might pretend.

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@richpuchalsky @futurebird @jonquass @ehproque And then if you look at actual actions instead of slogans, Biden has walked the US further away from Israeli military support than any other US president since Israel became a US ally. Putting holds and restrictions like he has is unprecedented - not to mention directly going against their wishes with aid and that pier to deliver more aid.

You can either encourage that or you can punish it.

Meanwhile, the Republican party has been saying that Israel should be bombing more, not less, up to and in one particularly evil and stupid case I noted, including nukes.

This, too, you can either reward or punish.

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@darcher @futurebird @richpuchalsky @jonquass @ehproque We need ranked choice voting for extremely reals. Supporting that at the lowest levels and working up is the most effective way to move towards it, like it is for basically everything political in this country. (And in this case that’s not a dig, that’s just a statement I think is reasonably well grounded in reality.)

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@futurebird @jonquass @ehproque Not to mention climate change, which I feel I shoud’ve mentioned first.

Trump and the GOP are pledging to do everything they can from day one to end renewables and reward and boost carbon fuels producers - who are, by the way, right about the biggest sources of funding for the fascist movement.

Meanwhile Biden managed to get the biggest carbon-reduction bills ever through a hostile congress, and even then didn’t get all he actually really did try to get.

You want to talk about supporting genocide by voting for Biden, look up who gets destroyed first and worst by climate change and then think about your position some more.

I'm calling this a preview but it's a pretty solid version of MEGAMAP 1.2, using the 1.1 rev 4 dataset, which is the latest.

Anybody wants to look at it, it's on my maps Github, click on PREVIEW MEGAMAP:

oh hello

I seem to have attracted the attention of someone claiming to be involved with the Recall team on the ex/long-term MSFT group

he agrees my many critiques are valid and asked for mitigations other than "don't."

i gave him a short list to start:

  • a trivial way to exempt your entire current session leaving no trace you did that, telling users how to do it literally every time - the entire session must vanish

  • either per-app opt-in or windows-defender-like maintained lists of apps not to record without direct user intervention, e.g. Signal

  • not one byte EVER hits storage without strong encryption, NOT EVER, and I gave him an easy and long-extant Microsoft technology way to do that

let's see if he's telling the truth

I am fucking going on people in the big exMSFT/long-term MSFT group (hosted elsewhere)

people are defending recall and I am shredding them like a wolverine on bonus rations of the finest of amphetamines

i got to use the phrase "'It'll only kill 5% of the users' is NOT A DEFENCE FOR KILLING 5% OF THE USERS" and not even ironically

Okay so with no show stoppers appearing, I've dropped Greater Northshore BIke Map 1.2 - Late May 2024, which shows bike infrastructure and adds preferred non-infrastructure routes between the Seattle and the new Eastside 2 Line Bike Connector maps.

You can find it here:

https://github.com/solarbirdy/NorthshoreBikeMap

It covers Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, Juanita, parts of north Redmond that the 2 Line leaves out, and a decent chunk of unincorporated NE King County.

Next up will be a revision of the MEGAMAP, a map that pastes together the Greater Northshore map and the two others into one big poster-sized beast.

RELEASE CANDIDATE TIME

Revision 1.1, Dataset 1.1 rev 4, Greater Northshore Bike Connector Map.

This version adds heatmap-sourced non-bike-infrastructure routes that people use anyway as a new class, in Seattle-style green. Think of them as demand paths.

I think they're worth adding because they tell people: yes, people use these fragments of infrastructure; this is how they connect together. This is where people actually go.

Also more dirt trails, a little more road-level infrastructure - minor stuff - and an improved legend.

The attached is at reduced resolution because that's what Mastodon does. But it's okay.

Feedback desired.

i hate the way nhk world dumps an entire weekend of all at once on youtube

i mean i'm glad they do it at all but it's like "whelp guess I'm not getting caught up" because getting caught up would absolutely be too many sumo

so i'm just all the way back on day six and that's all there is for it

anyway the oshoma / takarafuji match was fun, i liked that

one note on the map that I did think about: the lowest-grade red and green lines are distinguishable in black and white. the red lines use dashes, the green are dots with narrower spacing between.

the legend in this version didn’t make that super clear but I’ve revised the source to fix that.

NPR today:

"Like to bike? Your knees will thank you and you may live longer, too

New research shows lifelong bikers have healthier knees, less pain and a longer lifespan, compared to people who've never biked. This adds to the evidence that cycling promotes healthy aging."
