How many people use a mouse?

Seriously - I see a lot of people discussing VisionPro as "not being able to replace a mouse" but as a long time laptop user (my primary computer has been a laptop for nearly 30 years) I haven't used a mouse in decades other than very very very rare one-off occasions. I've used trackpoints (still my favorite) and trackpads but almost never a physical mouse.

I'll note, I'm not a graphic artist - but my wife who is uses her iPad & Apple Pencil but not a mouse

@Rycaut I can get by fine with a laptop trackpad, but I will always prefer a mouse for speed and accuracy. I’m old enough that the first computer I learned programming on didn’t have/need a mouse - they were still fairly novel, but my entire working/adult life has been with one.
I’m also one of those people who lament the loss of physical keys on phones, I’ve just never had the right fine motor control for touchscreens.

Alright, friends with an eye for design... need your advice!

I'm making a handbag. Outside is very classy. Harris Tweed, leather, brass hardware.

I can't decide what lining to use.

Originally I got the dark green fern fabric for the lining.

Recently I got the lighter green with bees for another project but could repurpose (I bought lots).

I think I like that it matches the clasp. But... I think the darker fabric is more classy. And then, the lighter is more fun.

@MsHearthWitch Entirely just my preference thoughts: I love the lighter green in general, but I like the fern better with the tweed. The understated fern also makes the bee clasp a little more special if it’s not “competing” with the (adorable) bees on the lighter green?

Shen Yun is some sort of a show that comes to Seattle every year and I get bombarded by ads for it.
I thought it was a bit off, but this year they went full Epoch Times in their ads "China before communism" blah blah "communism" destroyed all these great values ("faith") I guess the hideous class structure and mass starvation were the "glory days"
No fan of the murderous Mao, but there's generally a reason why a revolution happens

I’m looking for my next project / role. Finding that LinkedIn etc has gotten worse as a method for looking - instead of seeing roles from my network or close contacts most jobs seem to be only those that are promoted (ie paid) and seeing a lot posted by recruiting firms that are obfuscating who their client is (and many roles posted without salary bands)

In fact one friend reported a free job listing he posted was marked as closed unless he paid by LinkedIn because too many people applied

@Rycaut I’m seeing massive decline in usefulness on from both the hiring and seeking sides as well. LinkedIn has definitely passed well into the enshittification zone.

@Rycaut I’m in the wrong field these days to give you a better recommendation for your areas unfortunately. I’ve yet to find something comparable to what LinkedIn used to (kinda) be good for.

Truly kinda shocking how few people are wearing masks when flying anymore. I expect that I’ll continue to wear masks while flying for years - as I enjoy not being sick when on or when coming home from vacations.

(Likewise at big gaming conventions etc - I expect I’ll wear a mask at least when in crowded spaces with poor airflow even when COVID isn’t a primary threat)

When I went for my mammogram this year, I was in a waiting room full of women, many of whom were clearly Very Ill with the big C. Of all the people in the waiting room and staff at the facility I was the sole masked person. During peak flu season at that.

Admittedly, I’m not a 100% masker but I do make very calculated choices. I thought that surely, a medical facility whose primary patient demographic is immune compromised would be masking up, but… Truly mind boggling.

    I have reached the last of my reserves on the sadly discontinued Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi. The Yama-guri just doesn’t do it for me. Anyone on mastodon have a nice medium brown they like? Something between Pilot’s Yama-guri and the Pelikan Brilliant-Braun.

    I love when tree roots create cozy little nooks or twist around rocks.

    Tree root on a sandy bank creates a tiny cavern.
    Exposed tree roots along a riverbank has had soil eroded away. The tree holds fast to the remaining rocks, soil, and roots of its neighbours.
    An especially burled tree roots shows stout and twisty roots growing away from its base.

    MushROOMS (and moss)!

    Solitary mushroom with a light brown buttony top grows between the twisty arms of a tree root among moss and fallen leaves.
    Mushroom with a red top and white trunk/underside grows from a bed of green mosses. Some critter has done a small nibble on the mushroom.
    A tree trunk is covered with almost scale-like small mushrooms.

A large fish flapping its tail jumps up from behind the rocks on the right, then drops back into the water. Their determination is impressive, but I'm ashamed to say I added googly eyes so it looks a bit silly.
