Ok buddies, if I would like to lengthen the sustain on clean, and thicken/widen the notes on the higher strings, what effects chain in Logic would you all recommend? I don’t have enough space to get any pedals yet except for the mirrorhouse and the KinKin gummy bear chorus pedal. So for now I’m using the DAW. Thanks!! I can track the higher end parts separately so that I don’t over amplify the lower end parts, if that will help get what I’m going for on the high end. :blobcatcoffee:

neverbeaten,
@neverbeaten@mas.to avatar

@ambergrey @endlessblue
The Universal Audio MAX pedal does both types of compression in one unit.

Another way to increase sustain that I don't see mentioned yet is to increase string tension. You can put heavier strings on (which would also require new intonation and trek recalibration, maybe even widening some nut slots). But if sustain is something you want all the time, it is worth it.

Politicians and political commentators whine about young people not buying homes and starting families (not getting married) and then do NOTHING to help the young people (who do exist) who would love to do one or more of these things but can't because it's too damn expensive.

Build housing and coops where young people want to live. Protect their jobs with unions. Make health care not an issue.

Do not make some marriages impossible because you don't like the genders.

Not rocket science.

neverbeaten,
@neverbeaten@mas.to avatar

@futurebird
A big thing I've not seen anyone talk about is how back in the day, a person could work at one company for their entire career. That stability enabled people to consider "putting down roots" and buying a house they'd live in for fifty years.
Jobs would give people real raises every year (not just cost of living increases) to retain experienced employees.

These days you have to jump from job to job (and move) to get any kind of raise. Buying makes less sense.

You'd think the time would be about right for college students and professors to form co-ops and start new universities without all the baggage and problems of the establishment.

Who knows, they might even figure out how to make college affordable again.

neverbeaten,
@neverbeaten@mas.to avatar

@oceaniceternity
Partner with public libraries.
It would also be a good opportunity for professors to collaboration on new, open source textbooks, funded by the libraries.

Rather than expensive new editions each year (also unsustainable), they could publish supplemental addendums as needed.

Colleges have turned into giant scams fleeing both students and faculty. The higher ed system needs a hard reset. The past week triple underscores that fact.

If you think having the body of a man makes you a man, then you have absolutely no clue what it feels like to wake up every day in a body that does not match who you are.

I was raised as a man I was asked to conform and tried to conform. The only thing it has achieved is depression and that feeling of having to perform a daily lie to satisfy others.

I am way too old to worry about what others may think of me, and way too old to apologize to anyone for being myself. It took me more than 30 long years to unpack all of this, so if all you have to say is you have the body of a man that is who you are...

Please do me a favor and keep your mouth shut because you have no idea what you are talking about. And does any of this make me less relevant to talk about the subject of this account?

This is who I am and part of my journey to master the art of composting. If I had to make an analogy it would be a little bit like saying hey the pile stinks bad, well never mind put it on the soil anyway.

It is never good to assume things on a topic you have not experienced before.

I respect you and recognize you are who you know yourself to be. My parents always taught me that with people "it's what's inside that counts". I don't think they were intending to apply it in this specific way, but logically it is an extension of that core idea.

You are who you know yourself to be. That's the real you.

With love and respect. Thanks for what you contribute and share with us.

I want a central heat management system based on a cascading heat pump.

Liquid circuitry would run through a house to key locations. The waste heat from a refrigerator and freezer could feed the hot water heater or floor heating. A gaming computer or console would feed waste heat in. Anything with a compressor, cooling fan, heating element, or flame could get more efficient.

People I'm talking to recently will refer to "back during COVID" or "back during the pandemic" as if it isn't still going on and just as bad. When did the "It's over" mentality become the standard way to think about it? And how?

Graphs like this (and wastewater measurements) show we're still dealing with serious waves of infection, even if people aren't testing.

    Today a colleague texted: brace yourselves! Redundancies email at 12pm! In fact it still hasn’t come (though it will). But i was irrationally angry with my colleague for rather ruining my day, making it harder to give lecture etc. I just really don’t want to know until it happens. Totally head in the sand about this. Made me relate much more to people not wanting to hear about - they too just want a bit more blissful denial, because the news are too bad. 1/2

    In both instances I'm increasingly convinced that the bigger the organization is, the less likely it is to make any positive impact in regular people's lives.

    The solution to redundancies, downsizing, and layoffs is greatly increased self-employment, completely independent of corporations.

    The solution to climate crisis is community based action.

    We need our friends and communities now more than ever (and in the coming years).

    I worked at a college for 10 years. In those years I saw such outrageous erosion of what higher ed was meant to be. It seems to be purely growth-oriented and profit-seeking like businesses now. I had to change careers for moral reasons. It turned into a scam.

    It all needs a hard reset to refocus on academics and on creating the next generations of people that can learn and think critically.
