The analogy between Burning Man schadenfreude and jokes about red state natural disasters is an interesting one. In both cases they generalize an understandable dislike for specific easily mocked demos within the whole (techbros and dready white new agers/Maga chuds and R party swine) into something broader and meaner. There are plenty of good people in both contexts who don't deserve the disdain but saying that would get in the way of the clout chasing zingers I guess. Hope everyone is okay

@mrcompletely Those are Phish fan demos lol. That's fair, I was under the assumption is was more upper class. My information is basically 20 or so convos with BM OGs who hate what its become. Lived in SF in the late 90s - 00s. Felt like I met everyone who attended that first thing that was set on fire.

There's something beyond my ability to fully articulate but fascinating in the experience of seeing the and films in close proximity. Oppenheimer is quite brilliant but flawed, and one of its flaws is (to my mind) its treatment of women, who are reduced to symbols in the journey of the troubled genius. There are parts of Barbie that read almost as a critique of the other film. I don't really have a point other than they're both thought provoking in complementary ways

Mastodon is great, the only thing I miss on this app is quote posts. I know they have a bad rap bc of Twitter, but every major social network has this functionality for a reason (Tumblr, LinkedIn, Facebook, IG). As a journalist, I’d love to add commentary and amplify great info, build on ppl’s points, etc. You just can’t do that the same wait with replies! Is there any chance we might get them on here?
