Just remembering the time a third grader wrote "Ms Harris is a bicth" in my classroom

and I said "Listen, class. I know every single one of you knows how to spell b-i-t-c-h because you tell on each other all the time and spell it out. This is embarrassing that you'd write "bic-th"

And I totally won teaching that day.

The computer, however, will stop you from recording DRM'd content.

Find it fascinating that when faced with drawing safety and security boundaries, the primary beneficiary is not the owner of the device, or the person using it, but random corporations who control the intellectual property rights.

The system doesn't work for you.

yesterday @sustainrelease mentioned césaria évora's 'club sodade' album. i hadn't listened in a while so i gave it a spin, and immediately remembered i'd seen her live soon after sodade came out. it's a long time ago and i don't remember details, but the image of a barefoot singer spinning around on a carpet, lit cigarette in hand, is one that stays with you
#cesariaevora

@pootriarch Thanks for sharing that #CesariaEvora memory with us.

I remember having missed the opportunity of seeing her live in town. I'm really sorry about it. (I was relatively young, and the tickets costly for me at that time). I console myself by watching the recording of her concert at the #ZenithTheatre in #Paris once in a while.

I love how she sits down, seemingly falling asleep, but getting up right on time to perform her vocals. What a wonderful singer! 👍

Amazon has, for some reason, changed the release date for the Lurking paperback from Feb 21, 2021 to....March 7, 7431
does this mean it plans to hold any orders for over SEVEN THOUSAND years as preorders — probably!!!

anyway, please consider picking up a copy from Bookshop dot org or your local independent bookseller https://bookshop.org/p/books/lurking-how-a-person-became-a-user-joanne-mcneil/10354946

i hate how stripe is by far the biggest online payment processor

they can oversee almost every transaction you make online and as i found out yesterday, they will create a profile on you and monitor everything you do. so when you suddenly use a different email they will apparently just mark you for fraud

so now i have to wait for the store's support to get back to me, ugh

My favorite example of inclusive architecture in the Mission. People sit on these steps since it’s close to BART, and sometimes it got loud. The residents could have installed an iron gate or put up a scary No Trespassing sign. Instead they just set some ground rules: not after 10 so we can sleep, and pack out trash. So reasonable and neighborly! They built a tree bench as well.

Same steps, also showing a square wooden bench around a sidewalk tree.
