Trump tells us what he’s going to do. Pay attention.

Via New Yorker: A signal from that did not get much attention: “If I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly, I say, ‘Go down and indict them.' They’d be out of business. They’d be out of the election.”

@GottaLaff Do you think that's them just not getting what authoritarianism is like? Or are they just so blinded by whatever they find appealing about him that those pesky details don't matter, just as long as he's the one calling the shots?

It just seems so weird that the most ardently "Freedom For All Americans!" people are seemingly also the ones who want this one person in charge of everything, despite his openly saying he'll change laws and concepts that are baked into the Constitution.

We don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator!

“We are unique among the world’s militaries,” Milley said. “We don’t take an oath to a country, we don’t take an oath to a tribe, we don’t take an oath to a religion. We don’t take an oath to a king, or a queen, or a tyrant or a dictator.”

“And we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator,” “We take an oath to the Constitution and we take an oath to the idea that is America – and we’re willing to die to protect it.”

It’s a line General Milley has delivered before but he chose to use it Friday standing alongside President Biden during a national address – his last as the president’s top military adviser and the nation’s top general.

Monopolist Spotify is unhappy about monopolist Apple using its monopoly power to "comply" with federal court's feeble pretense of a pro-competition ruling in a way that changes nothing.

@WagesOf @mizblueprint @dangillmor Never heard of that. So, a streaming service but with a social network somehow ingrained, or something?

reay,
@reay@mastodon.social avatar

@mizblueprint @WagesOf @dangillmor Agreed. Definitely other options people should look into.

I left Spotify pre-Rogan and tried Tidal but found twice that songs were added unbidden to my playlists (not just recommended based on the playlists, but totally different genres by people I’ve never heard of and didn’t enjoy listening to), and their help desk basically shrugged their shoulders about it.

I went to Deezer instead, which I was quite happy with.

Searching for a new series to watch. Prefer - as long as it's not really horror, or zombies, or werewolves & vampires, or superheroes masquerading as scifi.

But decent action or fantasy stuff will work. preferably with multiple seasons to binge while waiting for new content to recover post strikes.

Recently enjoyed: Person of Interest. The Lazarus Project. Reservation Dogs. The Winter King. The Wheel of Time. Ahsoka. See. Foundation. The Peripheral. Moonhaven. The Expanse. His Dark Materials.

@exador23 @Binder Not sure if it’s quite your thing, but my wife and I really enjoyed the couple of seasons we saw of Killjoys. (Added bonus fun of spotting shoot locations around Toronto.)

@lamag @Binder I’ll check this out.

But for the record, I’ve been saying since that lacklustre Fox version came out, and still maintain, that they should do Riordan stuff as animation. Way easier to keep control over how the characters age, no stress over how realistic special effects look — just keep it consistent with the quality of the other animation — and less problematic if other voice actors need to take over certain roles over years of productions.

I'll admit I look down at any company that advertises that it's on X. The multi live streaming service I use just added X to it's list of destination and for the first time I'm asking myself if I really want to stay with them after my year membership is up?

reay,
@reay@mastodon.social avatar

@Mrfunkedude Same.

Like, I get that Twitter may have once been a main source of sales leads for you. But even if you choose to ignore the ethical problems of abhorrent behaviour and comments of its CEO, it’s just math: People by the tens of millions have left X, which cannot have had zero impact on said sales leads.
In which case, why are you still there?

Don’t stick with where sales leads used to be. Go to where they are now and/or soon will be.

I occasionally dabble tiny bits in programming.

Learned a bit of Fortran and a chunk of BASIC in high school (because I’m that old), and did some quick, word-based games in the latter.

More recently dipped a toe into Python when my tween was into it re: Robotics club at school. Even with basically an introduction to it, I appreciated its compact, efficient formatting.

Then I heard that Rust is more efficient and runs faster than Python? My curiosity got the better of me and I grabbed this.

Apple Store and online support is exponentially better than support for any PC.
Can people think of other things where the service of one company/brand is so the gold standard that having to use another is like 😫😫😫

reay,
@reay@mastodon.social avatar

@obrien_kat @WagesOf I was trained on Macs when the company I worked for that published a dozen weekly magazine titles a week finally went digital with production.

I found them elegant and speedy for what we were doing. Trying to do any of that on even newer PCs was a slower, clunkier process.

I wish they weren’t so expensive and were upgradeable (a HUGE strike against them), but they’re still my preference for doing any graphic design or layout.
