Achievement unlocked, rolled a virtual dice with my hands.

A pair of hands made of bananas pick up a giant D20 and throw it, in VR.

renegaderich,
@renegaderich@glasgow.social avatar

@jamesthomson @LaserdiscTurtle well this is fabulous! It's exactly what I imagined the future to look like when I was 12 and first tried a VR headset. The banana hands are a magnificent touch - glorious!

Maybe we'll get to roll some dice together (with real or banana hands) some day soon!

renegaderich,
@renegaderich@glasgow.social avatar

@jamesthomson @LaserdiscTurtle Also if you'll excuse a bit of fanboying, I've had PCalc for YEARS - so much better than the built in iOS one.

And TIL that there's a dice app. Aaaand it has the extra funky weird dice I need for running + things like Fate Dice too. Today is a good day!

@slyflourish looking forward to this! Has @nicole finally converted you from Notion?

I’ve been using Obsidian for my prep for a while now (thanks to Nicole!) with a template I made following the Lazy guide.

Every single session regardless of rules system is better because of it, with Secrets & Clues not tied to people or objects being an absolute game-changer literally and figuratively! Thank you!

Got to love how most websites now resemble yer da's popup ridden malware infected pc from 20 years ago

renegaderich,
@renegaderich@glasgow.social avatar

@sue yer da still pays for Norton Antivirus!

There are folk at my work who read the Daily Mail at lunchtime (without adblockers of course) it's amazing they actually find any news on there with the number of popups and intrusive ads. I don't know how people tolerate it.

One thing I love about the is that I visit so many more websites than I used to.

I confidently click on links from you lot all the time and end up in magical places! ...a far cry from the “five giant websites, each filled with screenshots of the other four”

A perfect example - this is beautiful, and makes the and nerd in me VERY happy:

The relevant xkcd:

The transcript from the webcomic as it's too long for alt text:

renegaderich,

@Nifflas I don't think I had strong opinions on map projections before reading the webcomic... now I most certainly do!

I discovered xkcd about a month after this one came out, and tried to find a framed Waterman Butterfly... sold out EVERYWHERE - I really should investigate again.

Audio tip: Hard panning music left and right is extremely uncomfortable to the ears, especially with headphones.

If a jukebox exists in a physical space in a game, never let it pan fully right or left.

(I'm looking at you, Minecraft)

renegaderich,
@renegaderich@glasgow.social avatar

@Nifflas it’s interesting that hard panning of individual tracks is often recommended, especially for guitars which are double-tracked with different performances for each.

Happy to everyone in and anyone round the world who needs an excuse for a celebration in January!

This is your annual reminder that haggis is AMAZING and tastier than the meat versions.

It’s usually found near the meat haggises (or is it haggi like cacti?) in the shops.

Something I’ve not heard on the internet in a long time… ROFLCOPTER.

Do people still say it ever?
Has anyone ever tried it?

The internet is different now.

Recommendation: Watch "Look Around You", one of the strangest and funniest TV shows ever made.

It makes it even funnier that we used to watch the educational films in school that it's poking fun at.

Woke up this morning to fame at last! A boost to my intro post from @dgar made my phone light up like a christmas tree with lots of lovely folks boosting and favouriting it.

What a difference a day makes (see my toot yesterday for context and a dilemma). Had a lovely early dinner at Suissi Vegan Kitchen in

Eating at a place where everything is (and delicious!) is so much less stressful for me: there’s no need to be “that awkward guy asking about the menu” or “the token vegan” …just me, being my silly self with my friends eating ALL THE FOOD!

Highly recommended for anyone who finds themselves in my neck of the woods: https://www.happycow.net/reviews/suissi-vegan-asian-kitchen-glasgow-160574

Just pre-ordered Earthling Ed's new book "How to Argue with a Meat Eater (And Win Every Time)

He's the best communicator of veganism I've ever seen, and even though I went before seeing his work, the philosophical and scientific positions he takes, as well as his calmness when debating people really inspired me to try and advocate for veganism too... I'm also very envious of his hair.

Dreaming of the day that groupchats have even a fraction of the content warning tools that has.

Folk in my groupchat keep posting images of their steaks and bacon breakfasts. I love seeing how happy you are with the brownness of your corpses. Very tempted to reply with some harsh truths and memes, maybe a link to Dominion.

I'd love to find more groups, but only use facebook.

Do I have any Dutch friends on here? I'm going to be in The for the first time soon, with a few days of exploring potentially in Amsterdam and maybe Rotterdam and Eindhoven. Are there any vegan restaurants which I can take my omnivore friends to and blow their minds?

I'll be using HappyCow anyway, but I'd love to hear any personal recommendations!

@ashyda thank you! There are so many wonderful places which haven't lasted through covid, but lots of brand new ones popping up. If you ever happen to be in Glasgow and in need of more pho, Non Viet is fantastic, but like Pho91 only a partially vegan menu: https://nonviet.co.uk/

Just back from seeing at the King’s Theatre in

Oh wow. It was absolutely stunning! An incredible translation of the novel, with so many extra elements which couldn’t have worked in any other medium except live .

If you have a chance to see it wherever it’s playing next, don’t miss it; it’s a hell of a show!

As we all hopefully know, everything @neilhimself touches turns to magic, like a less cursed King Midas!

Random question… Do I spell it “armour” or “armor” in game data and variable names and such? I’m probably going to be the only one working on this so I’m leaning towards Canadian/British spelling, but what are your thoughts?

renegaderich,
@renegaderich@glasgow.social avatar

@paintedsky Scottish here - I like using "armour", "colour" etc as it makes it easier to know which variables are mine, and which come from a game engine.

My favourite so far has been "bWeeBeasties" for whether to show animated ants (little moving black circles) when zoomed in really close to grass materials.
