I don't know how to explain to people that conservatives and conservatism have nothing to offer them. Literally no problem is solved with violence and cruelty and selfishness. It does not provide anyone with anything. They are preying on the worst, weakest parts of you โ€” and when you fall for it, even on a singular issue, you are providing them with legitimacy. You are failing yourself. You are failing your responsibility to the world to understand why their answers are fundamentally poison.

@ryanhoulihan Some people do genuinely want to be offered revenge, though. It's not a solution, but it's something on offer that they want. I personally know people who just want to spite and hurt their imagined enemies.

started asking people to follow some very basic rules in the replies to my posts on here (like โ€œno starting arguments" and โ€œno unsolicited advice/explanationsโ€) and it's going really well so far, everyone is really nice about it

Mastodon started off being much worse than twitter for me (at first I got a LOT of unsolicited advice that was not helpful to me). It's gotten way better and I really like it here now, but I think it could be even better

@b0rk This schema plays out in so many places, especially at work. Typically the person giving that advice thinks they've got a very clever and simple hack solution to my problem, but doesn't understand my needs (or didn't listen in the first place, or was a drive-by to the conversation), and formats their advice with the phrase "Why don't you just...."

I think I might have posted about the ridiculous โ€œAI smoothieโ€ shop that opened a month or so ago. I noticed shortly after they opened a sign went up that said โ€œbe back in one hourโ€, and the shop never opened again.

This article sums it up. I particularly like how they called out how clear it was that all of their โ€œhappy customerโ€ photos are all obviously AI generated.

    @lisamelton @Terra Just want to add on to this. There are so many quiet nights alone when a voice creeps in saying "You're not fooling anyone. It's so much work to keep up this presentation, and you're not even on HRT. Just stop trying and let people call you a man. It's what they want to do anyway."

    But I know those thoughts can't carry my emotional truth, because it hurts when I hear them.

    @lisamelton @Terra Oh, yes, I do very much know those things, and I'm mostly trying to share these sorts of things out loud in the hopes someone else can feel less alone when they doubt.

    The HRT thing, BTW, is really about two things-- (1) how heavily transfeminine discourse centers on it (2) like many enbies, I'm made up of passionate and conflicting desires, and a loud and large minority of my psyche would love HRT.

    @JoscelynTransient @Terra Ultimately, choosing to "just be a femme enby" was really just that. It was just admitting I could do it if I wanted to and being honest in following those desires.

    If someone's here on this thread having feelings, please know this-- you don't have to know where this is going to end up...you don't need a plan...you don't even need to make medical choices first. You can just get started with what's in your heart and hands right now.

    Hey exercise geeks-- OK, so I normally jog on fairly good gravel roads that are fairly hilly. Today I went off-road a bit running around in some low grass hills. Well, it just obliterated me. What gives? Does it just take more leg power to keep balance and form on grass? Or is it that you get less sproing off a step when it's not hard ground? Is this good for you or just dangerous?

    @RickiTarr I didn't get a choice for a long time; nonbinary identities have only begun to be taken seriously. But the big breaking point was when I turned 40 and realized how much of my youth was now a source of regret because I'd just waited and waited.

    Also, the femme in my psyche basically started screaming at me. Like, a lot.

    So the NHL just banned Pride Tape from being used by any player on the ice.

    This is after they recently banned all โ€˜special initiativeโ€™ jerseys - including Pride Jerseys.

    The continual erasure of the queer community continues, even in sports.

    There is so much more to this than the two examples above but I donโ€™t have the mental energy to catalog it all right now for this post.

    Itโ€™s disgusting. despicable. wrong. and frankly scary.

    So...Kaiser Permanente won't have the COVID boosters until November, but they won't cover for their patients to get it outside their system even though they won't provide it? Like, why would you want to actively increase your patients' chances of getting COVID and having serious side effects? It doesn't even make business sense given that treating COVID patients is more expensive ๐Ÿ˜–
