Got the Casio watch and it’s much smaller than I remember. Looks stupid on my fat wrist. Need a bigger watch!

Newport Workshops open day is a biannual event that my son loves.
There were some amazing restored trains that were not here last time.
We got outta there before it got too hot.
This long weekend is 37°C ish 🔥

Watching a mutual ask for printer recs and receive a chorus of tired tech folk going "Just get a Brother, they're fine" and man

    MAN

Like this is actually kinda fascinating honestly, Brother is now the best printer brand, the one that every Computer Person recommends, and is it because their printers are good? Their printers are fine, they print, whatever, no, it's because everybody else's printers have gotten Innovated out the wazoo, every innovation making them way worse, until it's gotten to the point where I wouldn't have one in the house even if it were free, and meanwhile Brother's have remained consistently Fine I Guess, which now makes them the best printer manufacturer simply by virtue of them opting out of the Who Can Get Crappiest Fastest race

Brother have gotten to where they are now, by NOT innovating

EDIT 2023-11-27 2130 UTC: I muted this thread a while back because wew lad this got too big. I won't see your reply but the lurkers (and commentors) of Hacker News might.

@bluGill @ifixcoinops I really enjoyed getting a wireless printer so it didn't need to live in my small home office

Past Kurt added a layer of abstraction in the email ingestion/automation system so that he could change the actual end point of where email goes without having to make users change anything.

Present Kurt is very happy about that. It saved him a lot of trouble today.

Think of your future self. You'll probably be the one having to deal with the consequences of your choices now.

    simonoid,
    @simonoid@aus.social avatar

@kurtseifried smart! It's the little things that cost very little at the time. And it saves so much time in the future!

Interesting Citrix Netscaler bug being mass exploited in the wild for about a month.

    This is the HTTP request:

    GET /oauth/idp/.well-known/openid-configuration HTTP/1.1
    Host: a <repeated 24812 times>
    Connection: close

It replies with system memory, which includes session tokens that you can use it gain remote access, bypassing authentication including MFA.

I think this one may have more legs than people realise.

    • ending wars
    • ensuring cheese does not come on food orders by default

    • addressing the housing crisis
    • putting an end to systemd
