Today I read the following real code written by a real developer:

ret |= (thing == 7) ? 1 : 0

Now I can't stop thinking about it. What's the deeper meaning? Am I missing something? :blobcatgoogly:

@thomy2000 @rasmus91 in current C, == evaluates to a _Bool, while the |= operates on unsigned integer types. The _Bool gets cast to it, but this way is explicit.

@icing as you ask for it, my impression is this: AWS does not contribute back (enough) and their SaaS model exploits the license loophole, so investors and/or mgmt thought they had to stop that. The sad part: now the good guys and everyone else lost, too, and maybe AWS will fork and then present themselves as the savior (as has happened with elastic).

I would be seriously interested why I am wrong, if people disagree.

@icing in general, i agree with you. but the details and consequences look substantially more messy: can they just strip the bsd license? should projects act like that (even if they absolutely can)?

how likely is it that will add a web-interface for pull requests resembling that of "all the other" forges within six months?
how likely is it that a web based text editor will be added within that time frame?
(please do not explain the email workflow or why it is superior, this question is about how high the entry barrier will remain for non devs). @drewdevault

zu verschenken: defekter v1 mit netzteil und ladestation.
defekt: eigentlich soll er durch schütteln in betriebsmodus wechseln, das tut er aber auch nach einer nacht auf der ladestation nicht mehr.
ausserdem: es gibt offenbar keine app mehr, die ihn supportet.

@bagder daniel, i respect and admire you for your considerate and respectful behavior, but would it be appropriate to point out the potential of unintended interception more clearly in this case?
i mean, the title could also have been "apple does not want you to notice when you are being wiretapped", or do i miss any other precaution they took for this not to happen?

also, i find it shocking that i don't find this shocking any more… 🤯

as an external contractor to our clients i boycott as much of it as i deem acceptable. for both, if i really have to use them, i do so only in firefox.
