Once was in R&D at Apple & Compaq. One NASA launch. Designed stuff. Made things go. Made things stop. Collected data. Sysadmin. Musician. Lead guitarist. Songwriter.

Working on an RPG and new music. Might resurrect an RTS someday. Header picture is the RPG game landscape before adding stuff to it, and with DLSS off.

Anyone who needs a Mastodon/Fediverse client for your Apple II, here you go! (Not available on floppy, however, you'll have to transfer it there yourself) https://www.colino.net/wordpress/en/mastodon-for-apple-ii/

stevesplace,

@ai6yr I have the Apple ][. Do I have a modulator box to connect it to a monitor is the question, lol. I might try that.

Portland's Providence Park will once again host concerts where people perform music, that stuff you're not paying for. The anchor was overly-excited about this development. There shall be much screaming and stomping of turf.

@whknott "What have you there, Mr. Toad," asked the strange lizard. "I'm not sure," replied Mr. Toad. "The humans were very interested in it. When they began to talk with each other, I grabbed it & ran here!"

The strange lizard bent down to get a closer look. "Be careful," exclaimed Mr. Toad. "They kept that thing on the end away from their skin. It feels warm to me." "All the better for us, then," the lizard said with a grin. "This must be valuable! We can be rich, you and I! Well, mostly I."

appreciate your vote!

stevesplace,

@synlogic I like the game concept & the way it works. The graphics are fully early 80's retro, which might not go over these days. I'd run it past young eyes to get reactions. If they're not into it, you could migrate it into a UI-based game in Unreal. It looks straightforward to me. Your maps become minimaps. The zombie gameplay a side-scroller level. Regardless, the core of the game looks pretty good to me. I'd keep at it.

Potentially sentient skateboard begins exterminating its riders. There's a patch for that, unless you bought the original flavor of death board. Then there's a store credit. cares not if you wear a helmet.

The lack of electric kettles in American homes led to scientists developing alternative forms of water boiling, like nuclear fission

stevesplace,

@bikeshed "Simply pour the molten mixture into the base of your InstaKettle! Tiny atoms heat stainless steel-clad lead in a natural, fossil-fuel-free process often observed in real nuclear reactors! Seal the base securely & keep your InstaKettle on its handy included hot plate! Now anytime you need to heat liquids, simply pour them into the InstaKettle and presto! It's that fast!

InstaKettle is so dishwasher-safe, it heats the water for you! InstaKettle! A great cook's secret helper!"

OK, I am fucking angry about this.

Talked for the first time on a Zoom call to a doctor today about IBS and the first Facebook Ad I see?? Begins with a man saying 'DIARRHOEA!'

I scrolled away as fast as I could, but not before I saw the text underneath confirm it was about IBS.

This is the EXACT REASON Zoom should be sued into oblivion and fined vast quantities of cash for their data harvesting policies. need to GET OFF ZOOM. Your clients' personal info is being stolen.

stevesplace,

@Rhube I installed jitsi-meet and a couple of JSON web token docker instances for an HOA on a server. I added some code to automagically send out meeting invitations. It was challenging, but it works. If organizations are interested in getting off of chat servers they don't control, it is very possible.

so Pelosi really hates Barbara Lee. why the fuck why?

stevesplace,

@blogdiva I don't know. She supported Barbara for a leadership position not too long ago. Nancy came out in support of Adam Schiff's candidacy contingent on Sen. Feinstein retiring. Perhaps this has something to do with whatever is gong on. Nancy just accompanied Dianne's body to California, so emotions are high. Is there a link?

stevesplace,

@blogdiva Yeah. Gavin said he didn't want to nominate someone running for the seat after he promised he'd nominate a Black woman in exchange for a Latino appointment, iirc. And then Pelosi semi-endorsed. The only way to appease Barbara's people would tick off others in the party. Probably should have picked someone from California. Not sure appointing Barbara would give her a leg up anyway. Weird mess of his own making, I think. Not his first.

@whknott Commanders walked among the dead. Each battle was like the last & the one 2 come. In the grey aftermath, amid the stones & grasses, there were bodies to retrieve, superiors to notify, families 2 mourn with. The fury of battle dissolved into sorrow & loss; a burning of hearts, a closing of doors.

Before the mourning came the walk.

Observing the bodies, the pen fell from a Commander's hand. Pain shot through his heart. He fell to his knees & bitterly wept. A face. It was his brother's.

My City Water Department is offering water conservation kits free of charge. Are these kits worth using?

stevesplace,

@kimlockhartga The low-flow showerhead and the kitchen aerator look like good bets. The toilet bags & clips work, but you'll want to test to see that yours flushes completely. I've used all 3. What in Satan's playhouse is a shower timer? No. The Teflon tape will be very useful if you don't like leaks should you install the shouwerhead. If you've never tried low-flow before, don't toss the old stuff until you see how it goes, but you might be fine with it.

Please ignore posts I made today. I was under the influence of accidentally taking not 1 but 2 24-hour antihistamines, which is not a good idea, but which really cleared my sinuses. I was zombified for hours to get there. Fortunately I did not have to operate heavy equipment. Operating a pillow was my limit. Somehow I managed to watch 3 college football games as a zombie but the rest of the time I slept or wandered around in a fog. "I should sleep. I just did. What is sleep?"

I'm up now, lol.

Federal court of appeal judges, all appointed by Trump, have ruled that Idaho’s ER physicians can face prosecution if they perform an abortion to stabilize a patient, unless their actions qualify for the strict exception that states an abortion can be performed to “prevent the death of the pregnant woman.” The GOP is not the party of freedom. It is the party of intrusive government.

stevesplace,

@xs4me2 @georgetakei The penalties are beyond extreme. The option available is to leave the state, not risk one's livelihood - an expensive education with gargantuan loans the GOP engineered for situations like this in their war on education - against a stacked deck. Perhaps it will change some minds in the southern part of the state. The north burned the Constitution long ago.

After battling for a couple of days, I discovered the variable causing me grief out of 80GB of stuff was in an overlap test. It was testing a 400X400X10 building area across the landscape & usually failing to find a spot despite there being many. At height 5 there is no problem. The character running the test is tiny. Overlapping from eye height, 10 probably overlapped landscape.

A chance to try and get a handle on American politics, with ’s . Jonathan Freedland talks to political commentator Bill Kristal about the Presidential candidates’ second debate. Again, wasn’t present - and he’d just been found guilty by a New York court of massive fraud for years in his business dealings. Did the candidates capitalise on this news? Not a bit of it. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0s5FuzBhWbL0vDIohPF1c6?si=KypvAHRvTaqX5OU9T5O4AA

stevesplace,

@SomersetBob Bill Kristol continues on his "Don't jail Bill Kristol" tour. His bullshit helped build the fascism our country is dealing with, but now he's the sage voice of reason? He most certainly is not. The entire Republican party grovels before Putin but media is so tied to old tropes it cannot see the damn forest GROWING ON THEM!

stevesplace,

@SomersetBob The man was Chief of Staff to Dan Quayle, which should have been enough to end anyone's career in politics. He's favored by media here b/c he doesn't like Donald Trump, but his politics, his writings, helped create the Republican party's grip on our politics since Ronald Reagan. I can't forgive him. I'll admit I listen to his gripes about Trump, but other than that, he's a shameless power broker from way back, all right-wing. Just be cautious what you believe of what he says.

@dgar The bands in middle school make out like bandits. The rest starve. If you have the talent to write, you starve the most. Wait. Unless you live in someplace like Orange County with rich parents who buy you the best equipment and hustle their influential friends on your behalf. Then you get to make money writing music. Wait. Unless you have celebrity boyfriends you can sing about. Then the money rolls in.
