@StillIRise1963 Thanks for the article, which reads like something from the National Review: Non-conservative media is to be scorned. The article also cherry picked the facts and ignored the plethora of republican 'never-trumpers' on MSNBC. The primary takeaway is the affirmation that the 21st Century version of the NYT is not representative of the country, but is, at a minimum, leaning to the corporate libertarian right (i.e. fascists).

“Mergers seem to be the biggest driver of this trend,” Ali Sanati told Sherwood. Sanati is a finance professor at the American University in Washington, DC, and a coauthor of the 2023 paper.

The authors categorized mergers according to various financial metrics, noting that mergers motivated around financing and innovation “are the ones that effectively reduce the number of U.S. listings.”

@shekinahcancook that's an interesting article. Thanks for posting. The lack of consumer choice resulting from our current drift towards monopolism reminds me of how economies were under monarchies, before market economics: a monarch would give a license for a particular activity to one company or group of investors. And consumers had to accept that. We're losing 600 years of economic progress so the world's billionaires can pretend to be royalty.

Dear Google,

When I search, I am not looking for The Answer. I am looking for sources. A search that generates only answers will be useless personally, and worse than useless professionally for me.

What I would really like is an internet search engine that works. Google did that once. Then they focused on other things and used it for ad revenue and it became the new Craigslist.

It would sure be nice if Google would reinvent an actual internet search engine.

@GottaLaff I witnessed the change of the Catholic church. In the 1980's I had a job where I moved a lot & went to mass in different towns. Every church was different, localized. But as the human rights orientated clergy that were present for the abuse scandals left, & the new bishops appointed by John Paul II were all arch-conservatives, & that led to the stories in this article. Then the Steve Bannon type conservatives purposely made the church unwelcoming for Human Rights supporters.

@StillIRise1963 I hope your puppy is better. Seizures in dogs just alarm the hell out of me. It's tough to find the cause of seizures in dogs sometimes. We were up with our 13 year old dog last night, who's in our home equivalent of hospice care right now. Luckily not seizures.
