Infuriating. Why did he choose threads? Does he not have any understanding of how social media works, at all?

Seth Meyers: How do you address concerns about your age?

🔥President #Biden: First, you have to look at the other guy. He’s about as old as me but he can't even remember his wife's name. It's also about how old your ideas are. He wants to take us back 60 years. It's about the future

Again and again and again, I keep finding that conservatives have no notion of fact, analysis, or critical thinking.

I don't know what drives them to be nanny state control freaks, but until they figure things out, they shouldn't be given authority of any kind anywhere.

Sadly, I don't think they would learn anything from losing except that they need to play hardball more often. That's the outcome we're likely to get. They'd scream and rage and get upset and use violence.

    I wonder when that was?

    Lynching black people in the street?

    Overthrowing democratic governments to install far-right dictatorships?

    Invading other nations based on flimsy excuses?

    Working people to death, and letting them starve on the street?

    I wonder what good example America ever set for the world.

    Loved all the terribly concerned, handwringing comments about Biden's age from my allegedly liberal friends before the SOTU. But don't worry, you still have time to scurry around like little mice - busy, busy little mice! - deleting them before anyone remembers you posted them.

    trabex,
    @trabex@newsie.social avatar

    @stevesilberman

    I still stay that we shouldn't have 80+ year old people in government office. But Biden keeps showing he can get the job done- and he's a far better choice than the other guy.

    It will probably be my first time voting a Democrat for president since Obama. I've always voted Green or independent, based on who I thought was the best person.

    This time, Jill Stein is running (again), and I'm already tired of her. She's also too old.

    A worker cooperative news outlet sounds amazing.

    trabex,
    @trabex@newsie.social avatar

    @jeff

    Increasingly, I'm finding that large outlets can't be trusted- either to stay open, or to tell the truth.

    Small outlets tend to stay open longer, even if they're circling the drain for years.

    Capitalism works like this: you only really make decent money and/or achieve your dreams if you own the company you're with.

    If you don't own it, you could be out at any moment for any reason. Instability is the rule, not the exception.

    The other day I was complaining about youTube shorts until @mcc reminded me that I could replace

    /shorts/

    with

    /watch?v=

    and avoid it on my own videos. Since then I have uploaded videos and only ever looked at or shared the "/watch?v=" links. Now all of a sudden it's not forcing my short videos to be shorts anymore. It's just putting them in the normal list!

    Like they noticed the other links were not being used? A glimmer of hope?

    Feel free to tell me I’m wrong but this is how I see November shaping up: Trump will maintain his support from 2020 and enough previous Biden voters in swing states will stay home to make him lose. Is there some counter argument to this I’m missing?

    trabex,
    @trabex@newsie.social avatar

    @therobburgessshow

    The people who support Trump still do. They're checked out from reality. No fact or argument is going to make a difference to them. It's the middle of the ground voters who are have to be turned off by Trump's massive list of crimes, if they aren't already.

    The upcoming election is really about, "do we as a country care that rich people break the law or not?"

    Some teams seem to be prioritizing analytics. But other organizations – like the Texas Rangers – have actually added scouts to their payrolls since 2019.

    When the Rangers won the World Series in 2023, baseball scouts around the league rejoiced: The team’s success confirmed that an emphasis on personal touch and people could still pay off.”

    But other teams have slashed their scouting staffs.

    I once got a peek into the Detroit Tigers front office. It was overloaded with bureaucrats and paper-pushers, people who probably did stuff they thought was important but whose job probably wasn't necessary.

    For reference: the Tigers have had historically bad offensive production for years now, which included signing veterans into long contracts, and then continuing to play those veterans even after they washed up in the middle of their terms.
