Ugh, apparently my little tortie foster kitty Madelyne's adoption isn't working out. Looks like I might be spending my Saturday coaxing her out from under a couch.

I'd remind people that most cats take time to acclimate to new homes but I feel like I'm preaching to the choir here. But holy heck people, please be patient with your new adoptions.

Flip the question: how would you feel about a writer who ONLY ever wrote inside their gender/sexuality/race?

(They're not exactly stretching themselves or developing their art, are they?)

Yes, it's easy to mess up writing the other. "How not to" isn't a topic I can answer in a toot. But it's important for writers to try to see the world through other eyes.

A defendant lawyer made the accusation without offering any proof, which is missing from the headline. And the lede.

@kegill @cstross OK but that's not quite accurate though -- he claims to have proof, just not legally admissible proof. The lawyer says that the proof is in a sealed divorce court proceeding so even though he's read it, it can't technically be entered as evidence. He's petitioning for the judge to unseal that proceeding so that he can offer it as evidence.

@kegill @cstross The attorney here is asserting the existence of a legal record, which the judge can very easily verify, and asking for it to be unsealed. This isn't "I heard from Miriam Cotton that Goody Proctor was consorting with the devil", it's "hey if you open that door to which you have the key you will yourself see Goody Proctor playing tonsil hockey with Old Scratch". That isn't gossip.

He could be lying outright, of course, but that seems doubtful.

@cstross @kegill It is almost certainly deeply embarrassing regardless of whether there's actual impropriety, and as such it's an excellent example of smash mouth lawyering. But the specific impropriety alleged, that a prosecutor gave her boyfriend a cushy gig for which he was significantly underqualified, seems on its face extremely plausible. State and local prosecutors do this kind of blatantly corrupt shit all the goddamn time and are rarely held to account.
