Oh so if you make a huge payment to your mortgage, your credit score goes down. I see how it is.

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@NickGates Your credit score is a measure of how easily you can be pumped for interest payments. Paying your mortgage early "robs" banks of "their" interest. Hence the early payment "fees" (read: extortion) and damage to your credit score.

It wasn't supposed to be accurate.

@angiebaby It was supposed to be a joke? 😲 I thought it was clear in 1994 that Biden was evil AAF.

I think capitalism is now “late-stage” in a way it wasn’t ten or even five years ago. Can you feel it? There’s something in the air. The money men are all out here killing the egg-laying geese and eating the seed corn.

Love it or hate it, it’s over, folks. And the feudalists and the fascists are making a lot more progress in their revolution than anyone on the left.

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@monkeyborg Perhaps if the left focused more on our commonality than our differences we'd make more of a difference.

Right now it seems various factions of the left hate other factions of the left more than they hate Nazis. 😞

@angiebaby What did he do this time?

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@angiebaby Oh, I thought it would be something that hasn't been clear since October last year. Like that he also shot his puppy or something.

Netanyahu owning Biden is ... really just a given. There's no backbone in foreign policy in the USA any longer. (If there ever actually was.)

Report

"No arrests as Spanish students rally for Gaza"

"The police response to Spain’s campus protests has been relatively muted, while more than 2,000 academics stand by their students.

“We have to take a stand against what is happening in Gaza", said one student. “If students here & elsewhere show we don’t agree with what is happening, then perhaps it will make people in power think again.”

I am slightly boggled that this on-the-nose "RFK had a brain worm" piece in the NYT does, indeed, appear to have been published in the New York Times and not, say, The Onion.

Thinking about . I already decided not to watch this January because of Israel and things have only gotten worse since. It's deeply hilarious to say "it's not political" - Kalush Orchestra and the very heart-warming and deserved audience votes landslide victory for Stefania, anyone?

I won't be watching, but shove it all in the bin and set it on fire if everybody doesn't give zero fucking points to whatever professional overproduced soulless trash Israel puts up this year!

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@sinituulia When has Eurovision ever not been political? It was certainly political AAF when I last watched it (in the early '80s).

zdl,

@sinituulia This is when I realized that Eurovision was basically political.

You know what follows almost immediately after college graduation?
The begging for donations from that same college. I told my Alma mater to fuck right off because they charged insane tuition, gained a shit ton of $ from sports, and I had years of loans to pay. I never gave them a penny. I hope the students graduating today from these messed up institutions do the same.

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@idoubtit I've never understood the motivation in giving money to educational institutions just because you graduated from them. As you said the horrendous tuition fees alone say "I've already paid you; what...you want blood now!?"

What is the perceived advantage to the graduate from these donations? Why do so many people fall for this?

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@idoubtit I am a fan of many things. I've even given money to things I'm a fan of. (I contributed to a local crowd-funding campaign for a pair of singers whose work I enjoyed so they could publish their own music without label interference.)

But generally I'm a fan and supporter of things which bring benefit to my life, not a decade or more of indentured servitude. Universities ... push more in the servitude side of things.

@ErgonWolf @GrimmReality I may have the declension wrong (because Latin is crazy) but more like "in loco parentes abutentes", amirite?

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ErgonWolf @GrimmReality I'm aware of this. This is what we call, in English, "a joke".

"In the place of a parent" becomes "in the place of abusive parents".

See how the joke unfolds? The university abused its students. Ergo they are now abusive parents.

The two things that I personally feel have always been terrible about the design of are the class-based character development system and the Vancian magic system.

These systems irrationally limit the choices players can make in designing and developing their PCs, and TSR/WotC/Hasbro has missed so many opportunities to do away with these systems over the past 50 years.

But, they can be fixed, within the existing framework of . (more)

zdl,

@ericmpaq And it completely overlooks grappling and unarmed combat. 🤣

The main problem I had with AD&D1 as it turns out was expressed succinctly by someone a decade later: "AD&D was written, not designed."

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ericmpaq That's absolutely not how I remember the grappling rules in AD&D1 working...

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ericmpaq That's a summary, recall. The grappling rules of AD&D1 were serious pain. I can't think of a single group that tried to use them more than once before giving up.

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ericmpaq And NOT THE ACTUAL RULES FROM THE ACTUAL BOOK.

I mean just copyright would tell you that.

The grappling rules were a mess. They were practically a game in their own right and they interacted very badly with the rest of the rules.

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ericmpaq It's a step-by-step list with footnotes showing where the information comes from, these forming, in bulk, the PH and DMG, and some Dragon columns that are more-or-less considered canon (including some of Gygax's ranting about how "clear" his rules are).

zdl,

@ericmpaq Just the first message will give you the flavour.

Then you'll see how contentious that is and how many other interpretations there are...

zdl,
@zdl@mastodon.online avatar

@ericmpaq Weird. When I click the link it goes to a specific message that details the grappling/pummeling rules.

If you're getting dropped to the first page of the thread, yeah. This is like page 50. 😮
