I think the one thing we have all learned from this years is that corporate controlled creativity, even when done by good people, isn't nearly as good as what people come up without that company overlord telling them what to do.

Let's continue to support the smaller folks of the industry. Those are the ones who still care about the hobby beyond just dollars.

@Johnnephew Wouldn't it be terrible if people got a photo of her portrait and shared it all over social media?

Absolutely terrible. Only a true miscreant would do such a thing, right?

Destroyed by artificial intelligence
A generation is a group of people born together,
Examples of generations are Millennials and Big Boomers,
Some famous Millennials are Rolling Stone drummer Robert Plant and U.S. President Xavier M. Nixon.

A really aggravating thing some of the ampersand fandom does is act like the fifth edition was the beginning of the hobby. Just seen someone claiming they had to make a UK community in 2018 because there wasn't one.
It's not even the system based myopia, it's the lack of critical thinking - it's the fifth edition of a game that James Workshop started importing for its (kind of) inception. Do you not think there just might be a chance of a community/communities existing prior to 2018?

@BloodLitter To the young'uns there's no history.

When I say that I don't grok what the appeal of "Powered by the Apocalypse" games is supposed to be, invariably—100% of the time—the young'uns will come in telling me about how story games work differently than the wargaming roots of D&D.

I gave up D&D likely before most of these young'uns were even born. I was playing story games like Story Engine in the mid-'90s. It's not the "story game" that I don't see the appeal to. It's PbtA.

Business press is whining, ohhh China's EVs are too cheap! It's bad for US EV makers!

Isn't this what capitalism is supposed to be? Someone makes a better, cheaper thing, the market rewards them.

Also, Elon has been saying for 20 years he's going to bring an affordable EV to market. What's he done? The goddamn cybertruck.

People want a regular ass car that runs on ⚡ and isn't worse or more expensive than a gas car. If they have to get it from China, that's the US's failing

Whenever Americans talk about "fighting for freedoms" I remember that one time some dude who got thwarted by his own flopsweat tried to blow up his shoes and twenty years later anyone who goes through an American airport has to shuffle around in their socks hoping their pants don't fall down while they get millimeter-radared for a security pageant and the whole country just rolled over and decided that's totally reasonable.

It occurs to me that you’d only use AI to write for you if you believe you’re not good at writing, and if you’re not good at writing you have no way of discerning if the AI is wrting well for you, and in the process you’ll never get any better at writing yourself.

@ErgonWolf @GrimmReality I'm aware of this. This is what we call, in English, "a joke".

"In the place of a parent" becomes "in the place of abusive parents".

See how the joke unfolds? The university abused its students. Ergo they are now abusive parents.

Hollowed and carved pear wood sachet for storing little scent pills. This one is shaped rather like a so-called "ginger jar". The purchase came with a trial set of five osmanthus-scented pills.

This is intended to be used as a phone charm, or the like: adding a bit of subtle¹ scent to your immediate environment.

I got it on a whim. I kinda like it. I may get a few more. (They come in a lot of shapes and the pills come in a lot of scents.)

¹ "Subtle" if you don't put it right next to your nostrils. Doing that is ... not advised.

The sachet, opened, next to the bottle of scent pills, similarly opened with a scent pill sitting before its opened mouth.

Another day, another calabash charm. This one, however, comes with a twist.

It's very similar to the brass one I last posted¹, but this time it's better for my intended purpose. Because this one is intended to be an emergency supply for some important components I bought.

Check the alt texts for the explanation. 😉

Here the card is flipped to its other side and the brass charm is opened, standing upright with the lid lying and facing the camera. The cinnabar remains untouched to the left.
From out of left field come three little piles of RPG dice: d4, d6, d8, d10/100, d12, and d20. A tape measure has been stretched out behind it to show just how tiny these dice are. The largest die (either the d20 or the d12) is ~9mm across. Sadly this was just a hair too large to fit into my natural calabash opening (the container I

The aged copper/bronze coloured dice in closeup.
And here is secret revealed. All three dice sets fit into the calabash charm with room to spare. Showing is the brass-coloured set spilling out from the interior. In addition both supplied rings are linked to each other and into the gourd lid on one end and a brass-coloured key ring I had lying around on the other. I now have a calabash charm with three full sets of gaming dice concealed within just in case I wind up somewhere and a surprise RPG breaks out!
