Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has announced the temporary suspension of funding for the UN’s relief agency in Gaza following allegations staff were involved in Hamas’ October 7 attacks.

The allegations pertained to 12 UNRWA employees.

I couldn't see the statement from Wong in the article and there isn't one on the government website, but Wong has posted to Twitter with a statement, I've also included a link to the statement by the US State Department for completeness.

This is fascinating: The World Hum Map and Database Project - Dr Glen MacPherson

http://www.thehum.info/

Here is an article about the phenomenon: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-01-07/the-hum-new-theories-noise-phenomenon/103245102

@kcarruthers just read that article, fascinating that the hum doesn't actually exist

zilog80,
@zilog80@mastodon.online avatar

@kcarruthers they were saying it's something more like tinnitus, may just be some percentage of the population have it (like tinnitus) as there is a high correlation to population

@kcarruthers I have not, seem to have missed them, that bit did confuse me...

    Crikey, this sign was in the pedestrian underpass at Castlemaine Station:

    @timrichards reminds me of stopping at a petrol station and those portable folding signs that normally say "CAUTION WET" was in front of the women's toilet and said *BEWARE SNAKES" instead

    Good read. It feels similar here. We've been programmed for decades to feel that Palestinian lives don’t matter, but younger generations are seeing through that bias.

    There’s a big reason Joe Biden is losing younger voters: Israel and Palestine

    What I love about is that when I "accidentally" refresh my timeline after having seen an interesting post, I can still find it! Just like where it was before!

    I'm all for an algorithmic timeline (for myself - I've got a punch of ideas how I'd like my feed sorted, and if you want it perfectly chronological, more power to you), but heck, it needs to be a stable sort.

    @zilog80@mastodon.online avatar

    @larsmb there comes a point where some algorithmic help is needed as a new feed, alongside local and federated timelines.

    Just spent 30 minutes on Meta . And that's enough for me. It's as though Instagram and Twitter had a baby.
    When it federates, it'll bring a lot more content we can follow on Mastodon, particularly from brands and "influencers."
    I think Threads will be of great interest to users who want to leave but dont know where to go, most of whom probably have an account anyway.

    Threads obviously brings potential of huge audience without the fiasco.

    Look, the Threads app is not for me. I'm very happy in and existing beyond a Meta product. But I think its going to bring some good content to Fedi, and could bring Fedi platforms a lot more users through exposure. It's a fediverse on ramp for those afraid to pick a server.

    @zilog80@mastodon.online avatar

    @darren I agree, it's a great endorsement for activitypub and Federation when Meta get around to when/if they implement it. It will be interesting to see if in 12 months if there are user migrations from/to Meta Threads to other fedi services.

    Prigozhin was allowed to trash the elite for so long because of his usefulness on the battlefield and as a frightening reminder to the elites what awaits them without Putin. But Prigozhin had his own plans, it turns out.

    @kevinrothrock scrolling back through various chats and telegrams and here, I can't help but feel the entire thing was just a contract dispute mixed with a powerplay negotiated by an ultra-nationalist criminal brain who only had APCs and tanks as tools.
