Move over, AMD vs. Intel: there's a classic rivalry in the computing world that arguably laid the groundwork for modern personal computing and gaming. Zilog #Z80 vs. MOS #6502 !

A new #article inspired by the fact that even most modern 8-bits are either Z80 or 6502. #retrofunpl

I got the privilege of spending an evening pair-programming with qkumba and learnt quite a few cool things! (also my video handler completes in 27 cycles instead of 31 🤯)

It's #NationalSuperheroDay and I have made at least 100 superhero costumes over the past 15 years + I could share any of them, but I've had the same favorite superhero since I was 4 years old. She used to lead the Avengers, you know. Captain Marvel herself, Monica Rambeau 🖤🤍 💫

In June 2020, our cable & internet bill was $79.00. We only have the local TV, 10 channels package & poor, rural Internet. Now, same service, $160.00 per month.

Spectrum customers show company the consequences of hiked prices

Charter Spectrum revealed that it has lost 72,000 internet customers and 405,000 cable TV customers during the first quarter of 2024.

We're leaving Spectrum, soon.

Some 40 years ago, my dad took a leap and decided to import and resell the microcomputer from the United Kingdom. This was indeed the era of the "micro", and lots of options were available like the , , , and numerous others. Unfortunately competition was hard, and the Enterprise was delayed for almost a year. Eventually they went bankrupt and all stock was exported to Eastern Europe where it got a second life among some very hard core enthusiasts. Very few were actually sold in Denmark - I would assume less then a hundred - and today I managed to get my hands on the third one in my collection. Inherited from his dad, the seller had no idea what to use this for. It's very much a special item, and very far from the mainstream like the Commodore 64. It is nevertheless a fascinating machine, sporting a with support for up to 2MB RAM. The operating system also contained IS-BASIC, and was a bliss to work with.

Seller's image of the Enterprise 64: Visible is original box holding the system. I haven't had the original box for probably 30 years.

Donkey Kong Jnr. almost saw an impressive release thanks to author of Killer Gorilla, Adrian Stephens. Sadly, when Atarisoft collapsed, the game was canned - but thankfully a final version managed to sneak out into the wild, so you can play it!

END-OF-LIFE FOR Z80 CPU AND PERIPHERALS ANNOUNCED (hackaday.com)

What this effectively means is that after just under 48 years since its launch in 1976, the Zilog Z80 will no longer be available for sale as discrete components, which is likely to primarily impact hobbyists and people who are trying to keep retro systems going. This does not mean that it’s the end of the road for Z80,...

The #Zilog #Z80 product line, specifically the #Z84C00 is being End of Life (EOL) after 48 years of production. You can still order chips until June 14th. https://www.mouser.com/PCN/Littelfuse_PCN_Z84C00.pdf

It's been a great nearly 50 year ride for the series as it was famously used as the main processor for the Pac-Man arcade among others.

Any fans staring frantically at ebay and waiting for the Computers For Schools 1996 carrier bag can stop looking. It's going to the Centre For Computing History collection instead.

I am going to enjoy the conversation in the post office
"For the purposes of security what does this parcel contain"
"A carrier bag"
"What's in the bag"
"Nothing"

I picked up a couple more Videoton TVC goodies at @revisionparty. Thanks to @iszell who brought these for me all the way from Hungary 🇭🇺 .

An Amiga PowerShark-style USB-C Power Supply, to replace the bulky original brick that runs infamously hot, and a dual Floppy Disk Drive with matching controller card!

Probably I'm somewhat biased, but it's pretty cool that things like these even exist for such a niche computer.

Aftermarket dual A/B floppy disk drive, connected to a Videoton TVC via its controller card. The disk drive case is 3D printed.
The disk controller card is activated, running VT-DOS CLI 1.2.
Disk drive working and loading things to the TVC.

I was still in emulator writing mood so todays EmulatorKit addition is the Exidy Sorceror. A 1978 machine (so about the same time as the PET and TRS80) which was one of the earliest machines to have ROM cartridges (cunningly re-using 8 track tape cartridge mouldings) and a 64x30 display with 128 user defined graphics, capable of way more than the rivals

I have the base machine done and the giant pageable ram disc. Need to look at adding one of the floppy disk options next
