Haste, To the lovely gentleman who just leaned out of his car window to call me the f-slur: I hope you have a wonderful day.
You don’t deserve it, but I hope you have it anyway.
#Seattle
Haste, And look, I gotta hand it to him: he’s right. 🤷♀️ wish I coulda figured it out that fast, would have saved me a lot of trouble in life.
joeveyera, #Seattle continues to grow, adding nearly 6,000 residents between July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023, according to new estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2024/subcounty-population-estimates.html
bedirthan, @joeveyera but it's dying...
rachael, Critical quote right up front highlighting the elite corruption in this town: “He [Sloan] texted his complaints to Mayor Bruce Harrell, according to a former city hall employee.
Months later, in July 2023, a deputy mayor and Seattle Parks leader paid Sloan a visit to discuss building a playground at the park, according to the mayor’s spokesperson.” #Seattle https://artsio.com/@ottsatwork/112447892962573969
rachael, Big mega transportation projects primarily benefiting people who drive just roll along and get most of the money but the projects for non-drivers are often crumbs we’re expected to cheer for and even bigger projects are easily cut when money is tight. Thanks Kimberly for this framing.

I know the model. Celebrate the wins and keep on. But the wins are always crumbs, and often the wins we are asked to celebrate are future deliverables that evaporate. Like the waterfront, like the lid, like the way the E Union PBL was executed.
Barbara Bailey, where it's unusual if there aren't cars parked on the plaza. Something mere bollards would prevent. The list is long. I am tired of celebrating crumbs and never getting served an appetizer, let alone a fucking main dish or entire meal.
And, in fact, being promised a main dish and then being served a cold crumb from last week's special that's probably not legal to serve according to health department guidelines. And this is actually a good metaphor because the public health implications are real. As are the climate implications. Etc.
rachael, I think a lot about the “Seattle Transportation Plan” basically threw out all the work folks have been doing for a decade+ to get some consensus on bike and pedestrian infra that should exist. Imperfect infra but better. There are maps with bike routes that will never exist in any real sense just as there are many many blocks of sidewalks that will only come into being if a big multi-family development happens adjacent. But the roads for people who can drive are already there. #nondrivers

EZLorenzImagery,
coprolite9000, Has everyone had enough #aurora photography? Probably.
But regardless - here's some attempts at tastefully processing my efforts from Friday night. The colours are indeed absolutely silly - I've left the saturation slider at zero, honestly!

A diagonal, pinkish shard down across a starry, blue-green sky - reaching a tall apartment building. Seattle's Space Needle is visible in the distance in one corner.
Another abstract explosion of pink and teal, expanding towards the viewer - looking almost directly up at the aurora.
The Seattle skyline, with tall, brightly lit buildings and the Space needle - with a pink and teal, aurora-filled sky above.
moira, Okay so not long after posting this:
https://mastodon.murkworks.net/@moira/112424660059816859
I got a question asking "why are the Seattle lines green" and the answer is "because that's the colour set they use on their map" but the real answer is "I need to include enough of their legend for it to make sense."
So now I have.
If you downloaded it before around 8:40pm Saturday May 11, you might grab the new copy if you want the Seattle legend included too.
KevinFreitas, #Aurora last night from 30 min east of #Seattle. Absolutely stunning for hours! Such an amazing shared experience we all got to have (irl and as a shining example of the global #mastodon community). 💚🩷💜♥️

KevinFreitas, Plus, once I got home at 1:30am this is what I could see amidst our massively light polluted #Seattle skies. Pretty great then it abruptly ended about 2am.

trochee, Oh no, the #UW #Seattle encampment might get attacked tomorrow.
This is a crappy piece of "guidance" from UW administration, saying basically "we asked the fash nicely not to beat up kids, but they say they're still coming, and we asked the encampment to leave, and they won't either, so I guess both sides, and maybe don't show up on the quad"
trochee, I'm irritated by the false equivalence here ("both sides are being difficult") between
(A) students trespassing on their own lawn
vs
(B) organized, premeditated violence directed towards those same studentsIt's like saying "he was being rowdy" and "he brought a switchblade to stab his ex" are equivalent party fouls
moira, strange goings-on are afoot on the montlake lid construction site cams
Camera 1 showing what may be some sort of weaved material, very blurry, and lit from the other side.
Camera 2 showing... honestly it's hard to tell. Maybe a weaved pattern but it's hard to say what's on the other side of it.
moira, each first bad frame, with approximate times in the image and alt-text
camera 2 went into failure at 2:55am
camera 1 went into failure at 6am

KydiaMusic, It’s like we’re summoning the Rainbow Bridge
#aurora #AuroraBorealis #SolarStorm #Seattle
Aurora Borealis looking like a curtain of colored beams of light in the sky, with vivid pink, purple and green hues radiating downwards.
Aurora Borealis looking like the aliens are abducting us, with vivid pink, purple and green hues radiating out from a central point. The dark silhouette of a fir tree is at the top of the frame.
KydiaMusic, Not the most flattering picture, but probably the coolest selfie I’ll ever take.
KydiaMusic, It felt so weird coming back in from the cool air and night magic to a stuffy house where even just the hall light being on felt too bright. I wanted to keep the lights off and let my eyes stay large and dark to see the hidden mysteries. I wanted to just stay outside and bathe in the light of the Aurora Borealis.
I feel like it seeped into my bones. I’ve eaten food from the Realm of the Fae.
offby1, I was so tired when I got home last night that I couldn't even toot a photo of an aurora. I took a lot, here are my faves #Aurora #Seattle
The aurora above a silhouette of a hillside. Pinks and greens dominate. The ribbon effect is pronounced
The aurora alone in the sky. Pinks and greens dominate what looks like a hyperspace effect

Haste, #Seattle skyline, #aurora edition!
I’m really glad I stepped out this evening.Magenta to green gradient of the northern lights

gordoooo_z, @Haste I am so mad at myself for not catching a glimpse of this… in Canada no less! I’m so out of the loop; I hope I didn’t miss the whole thing.
Haste, @gordoooo_z Unfortunately I think you did miss this one, but being further north than me your odds of seeing one are better than mine in general!
moira, (edited ) for once in my life there’s a big sky event and it’s clear and
whelp
moira, @cheribaker My big worry was that it might mist up, but no!
So we can't even blame that xD
Artemis201, @moira ah darn.
