offby1, I have a #PyConUS / #Seattle “missed contact" question; I spoke to a Tammy who was at #PyCascades and PyCon US, and we talked about GitHub's contribution graph; if anyone knows who that is, can you put her in touch? Thanks!
vantablack, i feel as useless as a monorail in #seattle
vantablack, (not really but i wanted to make the joke since the monorail here legiterally only goes between two stops and you only ride it for like five minutes and it costs like entirely too much money)
moira, Okay so with no show stoppers appearing, I've dropped Greater Northshore BIke Map 1.2 - Late May 2024, which shows bike infrastructure and adds preferred non-infrastructure routes between the Seattle and the new Eastside 2 Line Bike Connector maps.
You can find it here:
https://github.com/solarbirdy/NorthshoreBikeMap
It covers Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, Juanita, parts of north Redmond that the 2 Line leaves out, and a decent chunk of unincorporated NE King County.
Next up will be a revision of the MEGAMAP, a map that pastes together the Greater Northshore map and the two others into one big poster-sized beast.

moira, After the MEGAMAP update, there probably really will be a big break, since infrastructure additions don't show up overnight. But I'm always looking for new data, so please give it to me if you have some!

ducksauz, Hey Seattle Transit Friends
Once again, there's corpo-political BS going on with light rail. Seems that under some Amazon influence, the ST board is aiming to go against their own staff recommendations for the CID station location. Apparently, Amazon is concerned about their drivers being slowed down by construction. Screw that!
Do the thing. Click the link and send the letter to tell them to do the right thing here.

mscottbrauer, I'm not sure I even count as a photographer in the Pacific Northwest if I haven't posted any pictures from a ferry. Here's a few from a recent back-and-forth across Puget Sound for an assignment on an exceptionally clear day a couple weeks back.

btrinen, Both the Seattle Times and KUOW are running big stories today about the just released Bumbershoot lineup. That’s cool, but Bumbershoot is months away.
This weekend is the Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center with tons of live music and arts available for your cultural enrichment. They don’t sell tickets but do ask for a donation on entry. Full schedule here:

bourgwick, 50 years ago today, the #GratefulDead & the wall of sound in #seattle, including one of their longest standalone jams. the 2nd of 3 shows with more than half of the forthcoming “from the mars hotel.” more wonderful photos by crew member richie pechner. spring ’74, show #5. https://archive.org/details/gd74-05-21.sbd.belkin.2597.sbefail.shnf [1/4]
bourgwick, 46-minute PLAYING IN THE BAND is wondrous monster, one of the longest standalone pieces in the band’s history. gets a bit abstract/free/noisy early before (mostly) focusing on fast-flashing attention-holding conversation. moves towards end-space a few times, but someone picks up thread. 34-minute EYES OF THE WORLD > STELLA BLUE > SUGAR MAGNOLIA. powerful EYES with aggressive bass solo leading into 7/8 outro. nice musical pause before SUGAR MAGNOLIA, which gets a bit tattered as it goes. [3/4]
mrcompletely, @bourgwick an astonishing pair of images! This second one with rigging still underway is incredible

ottsatwork, It was a dream to work at Wizards of the Coast when I first moved to #Seattle. And I wasn’t even hardcore into Magic … beyond buying a bunch of cards on eBay. I applied for so many jobs but never got an interview. Great interview with Richard Garfield.

You don’t deserve it, but I hope you have it anyway.

Haste, And look, I gotta hand it to him: he’s right. 🤷♀️ wish I coulda figured it out that fast, would have saved me a lot of trouble in life.
joeveyera, #Seattle continues to grow, adding nearly 6,000 residents between July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023, according to new estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2024/subcounty-population-estimates.html
bedirthan, @joeveyera but it's dying...
rachael, Critical quote right up front highlighting the elite corruption in this town: “He [Sloan] texted his complaints to Mayor Bruce Harrell, according to a former city hall employee.
Months later, in July 2023, a deputy mayor and Seattle Parks leader paid Sloan a visit to discuss building a playground at the park, according to the mayor’s spokesperson.” #Seattle https://artsio.com/@ottsatwork/112447892962573969
rachael, Big mega transportation projects primarily benefiting people who drive just roll along and get most of the money but the projects for non-drivers are often crumbs we’re expected to cheer for and even bigger projects are easily cut when money is tight. Thanks Kimberly for this framing.
https://bsky.app/profile/sheridesabike.bsky.social/post/3kska47zgs22f #transportation #nondrivers #seattle #WSDOT (screenshot to bluesky thread with permission!)
I know the model. Celebrate the wins and keep on. But the wins are always crumbs, and often the wins we are asked to celebrate are future deliverables that evaporate. Like the waterfront, like the lid, like the way the E Union PBL was executed.
Barbara Bailey, where it's unusual if there aren't cars parked on the plaza. Something mere bollards would prevent. The list is long. I am tired of celebrating crumbs and never getting served an appetizer, let alone a fucking main dish or entire meal.
And, in fact, being promised a main dish and then being served a cold crumb from last week's special that's probably not legal to serve according to health department guidelines. And this is actually a good metaphor because the public health implications are real. As are the climate implications. Etc.
rachael, I think a lot about the “Seattle Transportation Plan” basically threw out all the work folks have been doing for a decade+ to get some consensus on bike and pedestrian infra that should exist. Imperfect infra but better. There are maps with bike routes that will never exist in any real sense just as there are many many blocks of sidewalks that will only come into being if a big multi-family development happens adjacent. But the roads for people who can drive are already there. #nondrivers
