SteamDeck

I'll keep saying it, because it keeps coming up. If you're working in the FreeDesktop, Linux, or Flatpak spaces, you need to understand this, even if you don't personally care about gaming or Steam Deck.

erwan,
@erwan@mas.to avatar

@cassidy Personally I've heard about immutable distributions for some time but never tried any. Now that I own a Steam Deck I realized how viable they are with flatpak!

@gamingonlinux does the steam deck display support HDR? Or is this for external displays

@gamingonlinux So happy to see this, I can't wait for HDR to hit other distros.

@postroutine

It works really well on the Steam Deck because it uses Steam Input to bind controller movements to keyboard/mouse events. It's very playable when roaming the world and a bit more fiddly in GUIs - you need to move a mouse cursor with the right touchpad rather than it snapping to things quickly

For more information about on , see https://blog.rubenwardy.com/2022/12/02/minetest-steam-deck/

@postroutine

As for other platforms, see the following wiki page. We're currently working on Minetest 5.9, one of the big changes will be rewriting our input code using SDL2. This will allow us to support gamepads natively with a better user experience

hmm.. I've been contemplating installing this.. as I want to use my deck as a full fledge system (windows 10 for controller/anticheat workarounds with linux for everything else).. On one hand steamos is built with the deck but on the other Bazzite is more stable and up-to-date without missing features... it's a tough decision. since this os can be dualbooted and play waydroid..

Valve reaffirms that there are no plans to offer a Steam Deck with a faster processor for the next few years. Instead the goals are is to offer developers a "fixed performance target," while also keeping power consumption low. In other words, don't expect a Steam Deck 2 until 2025 or later. https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/21/23884863/valve-steam-deck-2-refresh-upgrade-cpu-2025

@CodexArcanum @bradlinder No need for anything to crack. Valve provided everything. It's designed to be ripped open and modified.

SteamDeck Refresh Rate Unlocker - Unlock the display panel to use up to 70Hz refresh rate! (github.com)

I want to share an awesome tool called SteamDeck Refresh Rate Unlocker that I recently discovered. This script offers the ability to unlock the refresh rate of your Steam Deck's display, extending beyond the default range of 40Hz to 60Hz. With this tool, you can now achieve a maximum refresh rate of 70Hz, and even lower rates...

A small FAQ to hopefully help new users to kbin - kbinMeta - Kilioa Kbin (kilioa.org)

I wanted to post this here since I want to help as much as I can in my own way to people coming here for the first time. I hope it is useful and helpful! I tried to assume low knowledge with the Fediverse in my responses which I collected here from a different post and assembled into a single article....

@pyrox @steamdeckhq I'd start your return now. The housings are quite different so you won't be able to upgrade the screen. That SSD upgrade will work in the new one tho!

Thank you for all your efforts regarding gaming on Linux. People like you made me ditch Windows completely a couple of years ago. I would by far not consider me a Linux pro. But it is sufficient for my daily work and to play AAA games. Thank you!

Come to think of it that means all the smart items I own run Linux, right from my router to my phone 💖

Je me dis que je jouerais plus facilement dans mon canapé ou dans le lit le soir que sur mon bureau.

Retoots appréciés pour avoir un max d'avis. ❤️
