I find programs / applications that assume all storage is an SSD so infuriating, especially when it is blatent laziness or extremely uneseccary.
For instance, #dota only starts loading character models once you enter a lobby. If you use a harddrive you will be kicked (abandon) for inactivity before your screen unfreezes from loading assets... #valve the only way to solve this is to play a match against bots first

I survived the Steam Spring Sale and all I got was 9 games. A couple impulses (Isladers), a couple recommendations (I suspect I personally won't dig Gris but I have to try), and a game I longed for back in the day (Hohokum).
I bought things that I hope I'll appreciate even if I bomb out before the second level.
55.5 hours of what can only be described as "insanely variable rate framerates", finished #JediSurvivor on #steamdeck just in time to see how #Horizon#ForbiddenWest runs on it (not expecting miracles here, but since I already put in 100 hours on the PS4 version I don't need to be "wowed"; I just want to do the DLC they denied PS4 owners)
game's prerelease files are 98GB... why do they keep making games so damn huge?
@jynersolives oh i would never recommend it if you actually want a smooth experience. Turning everything to low and balanced nets you a mostly playable experience but some areas (Forest Array) and any cutscene with lightsabers are embarrassing if you're looking to "show it off"
that said: i will recommend anything on the steam deck because i love it and you cannot beat playing these titles lying down on the couch.
i'm also not a top-of-the-line gaming rig person (my desktop is a GTX1080 i think) and I cap my games to 30fps whenever possible because 60+ makes me dizzy.
if I can get 25+ fps on HFW lying in bed I'll be insanely happy. Lord knows Zero Dawn was unoptimized as well and ran "fine enough" on desktop PCs
@quasirealsmiths I played Zero Dawn on the deck and found it quite playable. What really blows me away is Cyberpunk 2077 on the deck. When this game can run smoothly while looking ok, there really is no excuse.
A top-10 ISV has asked if Flathub can provide how many installs of their app are coming from Steam Deck users.
Today, we can’t—we’d need a change in Flatpak itself to add the OS name/version to the user-agent sent along with install/update transactions. The best we may be able to do today is see the exact versions of OSTree and Flatpak that are included in SteamOS, check if those are relatively unique, and provide a rough estimate based on that.
Steam Deck users, can you share the OSTree and Flatpak version numbers from your Steam Decks? I don’t have one for reference, but the gist should be to load Desktop Mode, open a terminal, and type ostree --version and flatpak --version then paste the versions output. :)

I've always wondered if #Valve collects shader caches from players on the #SteamDeck for the shader cache updates we get for each game, or if it's "generated" in-house from their own internal playthrough/testing?
Do NOT trust this new startup company promising to deliver a new Linux-based handheld device. They have funding from blockchain companies, they promise way too much, their goals are high, and some of the promises can't even be delivered. How do they plan on allowing players to play Fortnite? What does an 'immutable distro' have to do with hackers? So many questions...
If I didn't know any better, this could be a scam or something that will leave the limelight soon enough and the people will run off with the $10 million they secured in funding.

so if I'm understanding this correctly, the intention is in fact a locked down OS. Will you not even be able to install your own programs if that makes the system-level signature different, lest it could possibly be cheating software?
I haven't used an immutable distro, so perhaps these problems have solutions. These marketing claims just feel a bit disingenuous to me.
@alextecplayz I imagine they cannot promise Fortnite. I think they are only promising some kind of SDK that EpicGames might or might not use. The only thing these people might be able to do is provide us with an Android version of Fortnite, but there could be too much overhead in emulating ARM just for that. I don’t know, the whole thing doesn’t seem impossible but SteamDeck fits my handheld needs just fine.
Watched The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes anime movie on Steam Deck.
It was great, but the light novel contains more than what happened in the movie (which I already read a while ago).
It was ~1 hour 20 minutes long.
