I caught the start of a #rodent nest in my #Toyota#Tacoma engine bay. They were using the insulation from the underside of the plastic engine cover and stuffing it between the intake runners and the top of the engine.
What are people using as rodent deterrents these days?
From what I've observed at our previous rental house a few blocks away, these rats usually pass through in the spring and are usually gone by summer. So hopefully I won't get any more trouble, especially with traps I'll keep set.
@douglasvb We started hanging Fresh Cab botanical rodent repellent sachets in the engine compartments of our cars a few years ago after some nibblers got to our firewall insulation. Seems to keep them away, though we have to change them every month or two.
Very interesting to hear what #Toyota NA CEO Ted Ogawa has to say about #BEV investment in the US.
Essentially, Toyota is ignoring EPA guidelines about BEV mix and focusing entirely on customer demand, and they will not make BEVs in numbers higher than expected demand lest they waste their resources.
Toyota’s now-well-known reticence in jumping into the BEV bandwagon, preferring to sell #PHEVs instead, may prove to be the better bet. The EPA is likely to reduce their mandate for 50% BEV new car sales by 2030. If they do, then Toyota’s strategy would have been proven right.
@drahardja I hate that Subaru partnered with Toyota to make their first EV, but I understand it. It meant Subaru could get into the market sooner. I bought a Subaru EV (Solterra) in February 2023. It's basically a Toyota EV battery, & body (shell) but the wheels, motors for the wheels, & interior are mostly Subaru. I had to wait longer for mine because the Toyota EV version had so many problems (wheels fell off during driving). Subaru wouldn't release anything until they were sure it was safe.
@Rjdlandscapes@ge0rg yes I know it has mirrors and cameras :-P I guess you don't spend much time putting them on trailers or lining them up precisely to marks on workshop floors, both activities where the cameras & mirrors are of limited use.
My point is that there are millions and millions of cars out there without this interlock and that you are kicking Toyota for something unrelated to it being an EV.

I drove this in 2014 on a press trip to cover a mobility trial in Grenoble that offered i-Roads for hire. Amazing machine. Driven by hub motors in the front wheels, steering is via the rear wheel. ‘Active Lean’ technology means it leans into corners like a motorcycle. @GottaLaff Yup, that’s my Corolla. A common reason that so many people (and myself) haven’t bothered to get the recall done before now is because the original notices were “airbag malfunction”, which doesn’t immediately bring to mind “metal projectiles to the face”. For people who live hours from the closest dealership, this is important information. 🙄
'Do not drive': Toyota recalls some older vehicles including the 2003-2004 Corolla & Corolla Matrix, as well as the 2004-2005 RAV4. Toyota said if the aging airbag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments which could cause SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH to the driver or passengers.
Very true. Cars are being added regularly to the list since 2014 over this issue. Hope people check
I mainly was tooting about the new, urgent recall that specifically added these cars mentioned in the post this week since recalls over these very airbags have been going on since 2014
I doubt adding to the list will end soon
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a method to check every vehicle's vin for any recalls, including these airbag recalls
@br00t4c We still get recall notices for a 2003 Subaru that was totaled in 2014, despite our every attempt to get Subaru to recognize the car does not exist :)

Toyota SUV adverts banned for condoning driving that disregards its environmental impact in a landmark ruling, that the SUV ads had been created without “a sense of responsibility to society”.
An important precedent because arguably, none are.
The UK's Advertising Standards Authority has banned two Toyota ads "for condoning driving that disregards its environmental impact... stating that the SUV ads had been created without “a sense of responsibility to society”."
