  • A vibrant red flower stands out with its delicate petals against a backdrop of green foliage. Long thin leaves sprout from its top, adding to its elegant structure.

The Crown Imperial, also known as fritillaria imperalis, kaiser's crown or Kurdish tulip, is a a flowering member of the lily family. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/crown-imperial-karen-cook.html?newartwork=true

Angus Martin, artist and thinker, said "the measure of your life is the amount of beauty and happiness of which you are aware" rings true for me... these little beauties are blooming. I repotted them in the fall in fresh orchid mix, after trimming their dead roots and here is their response.

Orchid in bloom

We decided on a late October day to visit the historic Balmoral Grist Mill in The mill was built in 1874

The Grist Mill, which is still in operation today, is located in a gorge on Matheson's Brook. This peaceful scene, with the colors of autumn reflected in the calm waters, is the area above the dam that operates the three story building that is the mill. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/autumn-at-mathesons-brook-karen-cook.html

Overnight, the first frost of the season in & it is cold!

The leaves on the ground were coated with frost, the edges looked like they were dipped in sugar.

One maple leaf in particular caught my attention...through the magic of selective color or selective black and white, this one leaf showcases the beauty of October leaves https://fineartamerica.com/featured/october-leaves-karen-cook.html

What a magical sight!

The waters of Mahone Bay and Chester Basin were mirror-like on a cool October day in

On this day, the cool air caused the mists to rise from the water, creating a fantasy of tranquility and beauty. A single sailboat moored in the water was partially obscured by the mist, waiting for the wind to pick up for a day of sailing. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/mists-of-mahone-bay-karen-cook.html

An annular occurs when the moon passes between earth & the sun, obscuring the view of the sun for some on the earth. It is different from a total eclipse. If you are capable of safely looking up at the sun, a ring of fire effect will be visible, as the moon is much smaller than the sun behind it.

The rays of sunlight cast a flare onto the daisy like a spotlight. I love the stunning bokeh effect of the sunlight. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/eclipsed-by-a-daisy-karen-cook.html
