#AI#GenerativeAI#ChatBots#UK#HigherEd#Universities: "More than half of undergraduates say they consult artificial intelligence programmes to help with their essays, while schools are trialling its use in the classroom.
A survey of more than 1,000 UK undergraduates, conducted by the Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi), found 53% were using AI to generate material for work they would be marked on. One in four are using applications such as Google Bard or ChatGPT to suggest topics and one in eight are using them to create content.
Just 5% admitted to copying and pasting unedited AI-generated text into their assessments."
'ChatGPT is leaking private conversations that include login credentials and other personal details of unrelated users, screenshots submitted by an Ars reader on Monday indicated.
Two of the seven screenshots the reader submitted stood out in particular. Both contained multiple pairs of usernames and passwords that appeared to be connected to a support system used by employees of a pharmacy prescription drug portal. '
#AI#GenerativeAI#LLMs#OpenAI#ChatBots: "“Who are they to be speaking for all of humanity?,” asked Emily M. Bender, raising the question to the tech companies in a conversation with AIM. “The handful of very wealthy (even by American standards) tech bros are not in a position to understand the needs of humanity at large,” she bluntly argued.
The vocal, straightforward, and candid computational linguist is not exaggerating as she calls out the likes of OpenAI. Currently, Sam Altman is trying to solve issues of humanity, which include poverty, hunger, and climate catastrophes through AI tools like ChatGPT, which has been developed in Kenyan sweatshops, got sued for violating privacy laws, continues to pollute the internet and is a source of misinformation.
“I would love to see OpenAI take accountability for everything that ChatGPT says because they’re the ones putting it out there,” she said without hesitation, even though it has been long debated who should bear the blame – developers or users, when technologies backfire."
"The parcel delivery firm uses artificial intelligence (AI) in its online chat to answer queries, in addition to human operators.
But a new update caused it to behave unexpectedly, including swearing and criticising the company.
DPD said it had disabled the part of the chatbot that was responsible, and it was updating its system as a result."
The rise of AI demands a workforce reshuffle. Business leaders, take note! This article explores how roles will change, what to prepare for before welcoming chatbots and AI, and how to make human-machine collaboration a seamless success.
#AI#GenerativeAI#Chatbots#Propaganda#MediaManipulation: "A society cannot be effectively inoculated against persuasive AI, as that would require making each person immune to such agents – an impossible task. Moreover, any attempt to control and label AI interfaces would result in individuals transferring inputs to new domains, not unlike copying text produced by ChatGPT and pasting it into an email. System owners would therefore be responsible for tracking user activity and evaluating conversions.
But persuasive AI need not be generative in nature. A wide range of organizations, individuals, and entities have already bolstered their persuasive capabilities to achieve their objectives. Consider state actors’ use of computational propaganda, which involves manipulating information and public opinion to further national interests and agendas."
#UK#PublicServices#NHS#AI#GenerativeAI#Chatbots: "Public services will not recover until the 2030s even under a Labour government, and it will take a decade to clear the backlog in the NHS and the courts, a report says.
The study from the Institute for Public Policy Research, a progressive thinktank, outlines the challenges an incoming Labour government would face, with voters impatient for change within a first term.
“The next government will inherit one of the most challenging contexts in terms of public services of any new government since the second world war,” said Harry Quilter-Pinner, an IPPR director, warning that reform and higher spending would be necessary.
Some of the IPPR’s ideas include rolling out AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to the public sector to save an estimated £24bn a year, with a “right to retrain” for workers whose jobs are affected."
"in those cases, [Bing] went so far as to make serious false allegations of corruption that were presented as fact."
Where LLM #ChatBots make libellous allegations, should their publishers not be legally liable? When chatbots give advice following which results in damage, should their publishers not be legally liable?
Artificial intelligence companies scrape information available online, including article
In the suit filed Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, the Times said #OpenAI and Microsoft are advancing their technology through the “unlawful use of The Times’s work to create artificial intelligence products that compete with it” and “threatens The Times’s ability to provide that service.”
